Can anyone tell me if it can hurt the circuitry if I leave the internal power switch on and, instead, use a switch on a power strip? I'd like to keep the door closed and not have to open and close the door each time I want to power it on but I don't want to damage anything doing this.

That's how I do it.  No problems.
