Computer desk transformation

Yesterdays computer desk is today's Slot Box.
Needed another Slot Stand, but didn't want to send $125.00 for the plywood, Formica and Glue.
So I recycled an old computer desk into a slot box. Took a little planning to get the finished edges in the right location.
Turned out okay for in shop use. The quality of the veneer wasn't that great.
Will be looking for a true Formica veneer for the next box if needed.

Its a little off subject, but for members into wood working its pretty simple although time consuming.
Probably got 5 to 6 hours in to it, but the first one always takes longer.

Looks very nice.  Much better than what I usually get around to building.  Both of the slot stands I have built have been designed to hold multiple machines.  I basically go to home depot and get a 4x8 plywood cut into the right dimensions and then get several 2x4's to make a pair of frames  and then 4x4's to make the legs.

Nice clean looking multi stand.
Was going to build a single stand to hold 4 machines. Sets of two machines back to back.
Like a island with 4 machines, but decide to go with individual stands. Easier to move and change configuration.
Didn't want to put the money out for supplies, rather use the cash to buy machines.
I used up most of the desk as I needed to use pieces with veneer on all sides when possible.
Had to cut some very thin pieces to make some veneer for edges that needed to be cut.
Best thing no cost just time.
Give it a try if you come across some old desk or counter top.
It would make a good top and face for your multi slot stand.

That photo is before I sanded it down and stained it.  In retrospect, I should have probably just bought some mica and put it on the top, it would make sliding the machines a lot easier.  I didn't sand it down to "furniture" quality, just enough so I don't get splinters.
