Coin In System Tech Help

This will be a multi-part posting due to the number of images, so I'll try to consolidate topics into each post.


In doing some more research and cleanup on my early S+, I acquired a new coin group harness, that looks like the one shown below.  This is a 2 part harness, one part with the wiring to the coin optics and an add-on harness for the comparator.


Let's talk door side first.  As you can see in the new harness photo, it has a red wire coming from the corner pin.  The other photo is my existing plug.  As you'll see, the red wire has been cut away.


What would that red wire be for?

Part 2, the comparator side.  My new plug, shown in the first post has a purple wire that my old one does not.  Should that wire be there on an S+?  Old image below.


It looks like the comparator is right but I am thinking I may have the wrong optics.  Note the small connector on the optic board vs. the connector on the new one in the second image.


Should I be looking for a different optic or do I need a different comparator harness for early S+ machines?

IGT made several versions of their coin optics boards over the years. Many of them had different connectors with different number of wires. So probably the new wiring harness you obtained is for a different setup than what your machine has.

My opinion- your coin comparitor works fine with the old wiring that came with it, the only reason you are replacing the wiring is for appearance reasons. It has splices and some of the wires are overly long, but it works. I'd redo the splices and make the wires shorter and neater.

Thanks once again to the great vendors that support the site and its users.  I've been able to acquire all the components necessary to rehab my coin-in wiring and get rid of the ugly hacked up stuff that was there.  Everything is in and working great.  Looks great too!
