newbie to bally 831

i have an 831 3 line machine.  when i got it, the middle and right fuse were wrapped in tin foil. what is the order from left to right, they arent marked.  i replaced all with 5 amp, though the schematic says one is 3 amp.  the reel mechanism was all gunked up. when spun manually,  they would not spin well, and 2 would not lock at the end of the cycle. that works great now.

i replaced the fuses, and they did not blow.  first off, i see no on/ off switch?  it lights up when plugged in. it has a door switch at the bottom right, but in or out doesnt change anything.  tripping the coin switch makes a slight click, ist coin briefly flashed,  and thats it. handle locked. unlokcing the handle and pulling does nothing.  holding down the coin switch will keep the first coin light lit. the little diverter under the coin mech does pull in when plugged it.  there is some kind of lockout solenoid on the door latch with a rod that goes into the latch mechanism, that never moves.
there is a switch at the bottom of the door chute, tripping that does make the coins out meter increase.

i dont see a stepper that would move then coins are dropped. not sure where to go next with this, as i dont really know how it works when i coin is dropped, or a 2nd and 3rd coin added.

With these older EM Bally slot machines you need to clean and make sure the contact switches on the reel assemble are working correctly. This means using a multimeter to check the contacts. A visual inspection doesn’t give an accurate discription of if they have continuity or not. Also pay attention to the beau plugs. These are the plugs that connect the reels, hopper and feature unit to the cabinets wiring harness. A scotch bright pad works great to clean them. I like to clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and q-tip. I flatted the w-tips so I don’t have to spread open the contacts.
Your machine has a feature unit located behind the top glass. Open the door and lift up on the feature glass frame. Some machine might have 2 screw holding the frame to the cabinet. They are located at the very bottom of the frame. The feature unit has the stepper unit, and other relay assembly’s. The feature unit can be a pain to get out if they have not been removed for years.
