Reels issue with an S+ machine
« on: January 20, 2019, 12:02:50 pm »
Just bought a non working S+ machine & installed a new battery on the main board. Turned the machine on & all 3 reels spin in unison for about 1 second, stopped, spun again for about 1 second, stopped & did it maybe 2 more times & now I have a 42 (reel 2 error) I've checked & all 3 reels spin freely with the power off, made sure all 3 reel plugs underneath each reel were snug & have when swapped the reels around & even tried 3 other reels completely. Still have a reel tilt 42, any ideas of what's going on? Thanks

Another issue I just encountered, when I go into the set up menu by pressing the White test button 2 times, I can't make any changes by pressing the spin button on the deck, it's acting as if none of the deck buttons are responding. I've checked to make sure all connections around the MPU & the bottom board it snaps into are secure & they are

You don't have a 16 Mhz chip in a 10 Mhz board (or vice versa) do you?

That is possible, how do I tell the difference in the 2 boards?

The 10 Mhz board has the blue volume adjustment wheel on top and the 16 board doesn't have a wheel, as it is adjusted through the machine menu.

Ok, this board has no volume pot, so I'll try a 10 Mhz board & see if that clears things up, thank you for the response

The SP 873 is a 10 Mhz chip. The reel chip is a 95% payout.

The SP 873 is a 10 Mhz chip.

Just to re-emphasize what was said above, it sounds like you had a 10 MHz chip in a 16 MHz board, which will cause those funky reel errors.  The board isn't bad, and neither is the chip, but they're not compatible with each other.

That's exactly what it was, I swapped the boards & now everything is working fine, thanks Shaggy & Knagl for your help!
