MEI sc6607 bill acceptor error

6607 bill acceptor on an MKVI is acting up.  I booted the machine up, and the bill validator  bezel was dark.  Ie would not accept any bills.  I cleaned the optics and electrical contacts, but nothing changed.  After the machine was shut down for a few hours, I rebooted it again.  The BV bezel runway lights were back on.  I put a $1 in, and it took the bill adding the dollar to the existing credits.  Any other denomination bill is rejected with the message "Bill rejected - Amount would exceed bill acceptor limit". 
Any ideas on how to resolve this?

I know nothing about a MKVI but it sounds like it just told you. You need to play some of those credits down or cash it out. It should then return to normal. You can probably raise the bill limits but usually can only be done when there are zero credits on the machine. Again unfamiliar with Aristocrats.

I will cash out the credits and hopefully, this will resolve the issue.  I don't know how to raise the bill limits.

A problem that I never saw in a casino.....there were too many credits on it.  Once cashed out, everything returned to normal.  Thanks for the help!
