Bally alpha s9000 replacement MPU states MBR failure

We have had issues with our s9000 due to nvram issues. We bought a replacement MPU on eBay that stated it was testing and working. When we swapped bios and jurisdiction chip over it states on boot "OBE Check". Then states MBR read failure

I am at a loss. This is our third MPU that has not worked and I'm confused as to where to go from here. The original MPU with nvram issues appears to be a battery terminal thing as when we tighten down the contacts it works for a day or two then upon boot we got the dreaded nvram battery low.

I know nothing about these machines but Im anxious to hear what troubleshooting techniques are suggested by someone who does. Something about this post ticked an old memory….didn’t you post about this a long time ago? Or is this a different machine? It doesn’t look like you ever replied to Mr. Rickhunter in his suggestion in March 2024.
When us fellow members and volunteers see another member reply with a suggestion, we anxiously wait for a follow up response. We see a ton of posts so if you don’t respond the topic just fades away.

My first instinct is to check PS voltages and connectors. The error code might vary from board to board but its possible the cause is the same. Either that or you truly have a bad MBR, which leaves only one option….
