DBV-145-SS Wont light up/take bills
« on: June 13, 2024, 08:03:00 pm »
Hi,

This is my first post on this site so I am sorry if I did anything wrong in advance.

I recently bought a igt s+ double diamond. It has a DBV-145 installed on it. The person I bought it from was using tokens and never used the dbv. I am trying to get it to work, however I cannot seem to get it to work. The BV 9--1 setting is enabled when i got it however the denom was set to 0. I used the set chip to enabled the denomination and set it to 25c. The insides of the dbv are very clean and the unit looks to be in very good shape. When I start up the machine the dbv starts up and makes the normal noises I would expect however the bezel never lights up nor does it even try to take money. I have tried reseating all of the cables as well and no such luck. I have tried looking at other posts for help and I haven't found anything that has got it to work yet. I have attached a picture of the dbv with the version information. Let me know if you have any idea/what additional information that would help.

Thanks,

Remove the cash can.
There's also two small tabs/holes at the back of the DBV, that you have to make the bill acceptor is seated into.
That helps line up the gears that roll everything thru the acceptor.
Then make sure the two brass thumb knobs at the bottom front, are snug.
Check the harnesses attached too.

That DBV-145 bill acceptor is pretty much outdated, and probably only takes the older, small-headed one-dollar bills.
Try a new $20 bill...if it accepts it, then that may be the best it will do.... if not, then it will only take older small-headed bills.... which are scarce.
You can update the bill acceptor, but it's pretty expensive to do.
Get a hold of member JIM, to see if he has any newer DBV-200 heads available or not.

I have done all of this and cant get it to even light up. At this point it seems like its a setting on the slot that wont even enable the bv even though i have 9--1 enabled and the denom set. I tried to message jim but it said I didn't have access to send messages so im not sure what I need to do that.

Thanks,

Based on the bad reviews of the dbv line, I'm very tempted to just remove it and buy a wba 13 to install, however I'm new to this and scared to fresh install a wba13. Also im not sure how much it would cost for a full wba 13 kit.

It's a bit of a challenge to install the WBA 13. I'd give the DBV 200 a try. It's an easy swap - mine have not failed in years.
There is one other thing you need... the power supply. Likely your is original but can you post a photo of it? Just follow the wires and you'll see a rectangular black plastic box 5" long or so... I can't remember.

After reseating it a few times I have got it the bezel to light up however the light is flickering, almost like its losing power or something. Also it spits out a one dollar bill every time. Im going to try and find a new 20 to try. Here is the power supply. Let me know if this works.

New 20s will NOT work with a 145.  You need OLD crisp bills and the 145 only accepts them facing one direction but can be upside down.  I would try inserting the bills upside down.

I have attached a video(had to mega compress it) of what the bv does when we start it up. The machine then warms up then the light goes out and the bv stops working.

Maybe power supply or the DBV145 is failing. PS is most likely original and is the culprit. You will need that replaced anyway if you upgrade to the DBV200 . I would start there. Send the power supply to Jim and he can install a new module into it.
