Haywire Machine error 41,42,43

I replaced the motherboard on my haywire machine- pics attached.  I reinstalled the game chips and the reels began to spin several times after powering up but each time ended with an error code of either 41,42,43. 
The trouble shooting guide says to check wiring to the reels to see if the problem follows one set reel connectors- I have gotten error code for all three so I would think that isn't the case.


Does a new board require ram clearing?
what steps should I take to check the reels?

Any help would be appreciated

Your old board is 10Mhz, your new board is 16Mhz.

What Sixcardmark said.  Because it's a 16MHz board you'll need to get a different SP chip for it.  Contact member RB and he can get you a compatible one.

Just FYI - that is not a motherboard. It's an MPU (or CPU). Pictured here is a motherboard.

The guys above are correct. To spell it out clearly, the GAME (SP) chip used on a MPU board has to match the board in use. While the majority of S+ boards were 10MHz, later boards were 16MHz. You cannot use a GAME (SP) chip designed for a 10MHz board on a 16MHz board, and vice-versa. If you do, it will result in random reel errors.

Additionally ..... "Original" chips ... those with an IGT sticker on them ... that were supplied to the casino with a 10mhz board may also be too slow to run reliably in a 16mhz board.
Ie a chip might be rated for 240ms .... newer chips would be rated for 80ms ... the lower the number the faster the chip.

Almost all new chips are a magnitude faster than what was originally supplied (funny what 40 years will do).... So if your chips don't have the original stickers your probably in good shape.
But to echo the folks here you need a different game chip that is designed for a 16mhz board.

If you try your reel chip - no harm will come to it by being too slow other than you will get the occasional random error ... error 63 and 65 are the common ones.


The most obvious difference is the boards is that a 10mhz board has a manual volume control on the front and the 16mhz controls its volume by settings in the game chip. The chips for 10mhz boards don't have those adjustable settings.

Well, I don't know about the OP but I have learned a crap load about MPU's!  I am new to slot machines and new here as well and it's really great how all of you pile on and share what you know.
