BB2e won't run Star Trek (Episodic) - Top Video Server Not Configurable

Hi, I've got a BB2e and bought Star Trek and a standard (non-OLED) button panel for it.  After going through configuration, the game fails to load and I get a blue screen error - Top Video Server Not Configurable.  I've heard people say to disable the topper in game options, but I don't have any game options to pick from until the game fully loads.

So far I've tried ram clearing and reinstalling (multiple times), and trying different OS's (H9.26 and H9.27).

I was also thinking a bad video cable or EDID info.  In another game (Super Jackpot Party), I went into diagnostics and could see the EDID info for the lower and upper screens, so that seems ok.  The lower display is connected via DVI, and the upper by VGA.  I don't have any other video ports.  I'm not running a fooler board or TSE board (but didn't think I had to?).

Anyone run into this before?  Any thoughts?  Thanks!

Gonna go out on a limb since it's been years since i have run this game. I don't have the means
to run it anymore either, don't have a standard button panel.

If I remember right you disable top box in game setup not advanced options which, if correct
does not mean game need to be fully loaded. After you have loaded the episodes and before you
"Return to game" hit the set-up game button and disable top box then Return or exit to game.

I hope I am not misleading you. Wish I had a way to check this for you

The screen you show sure looks different from what I remember. I do have the fooler board on my Converted BB1 To
BB2. I don't think I had to use it tho. Hopefully someone will chip in to square you away.

I use to keep detailed notes on games that had odd or different setups. Haven't seen them in years unfortunately.

Just for kicks try hooking up a pc monitor instead of the top screen.  My star trek setup uses an old PC LCD monitor.

Yep, looking for an old VGA PC monitor and a different VGA cable.  It 'feels' like a monitor/EDID issue from other posts I've seen.  Fingers crossed!

Didn't work... I set up a widescreen PC monitor that supports a lot of resolutions.   The screen works great, but I get the same error.

To go another step, I swapped the monitors temporarily - top to bottom, bottom to top - same issue.

Still at a loss...

Did you try the settings I posted above?  I checked the ebay sellers and that's the settings for all episodes.  They must be selected as I posted or it won't work.

Hi Brian!  I did test them and it didn't work, but I wanted to get home and 'confirm' that everything was as you said.

Yep, I set all 6 games to 'Default', 'Ignore', and 'Always'.  Still no success - the game throws the same blue screen error.

The only other thing I can say is try 9.25. But it listed 9.25-9.27 in my notes. 

Sorry, Nothing else but a standard button panel should be needed.

Thanks Brian.  I tried with H9.25, but still get the same error.

I'm assuming it's a dumb setting I'm missing or my machine has some sort of hardware issue, and I'm trying to chase that down.  I tightened all cables and tossed in a new SSD, still have the issue.

I tried swapping out VGA cables.  No luck.  My top monitor is a Kristel LCD22-A04.  Does anyone know what resolution Star Trek runs at?

Any other hardware debugging steps I should take?  I tried running without a printer, bill validator, and unhooked my tito.  Still get the same error.  I ran a game (Super Jackpot Party) with the standard button deck, so I know that works.

Yes!  Other games seem to work fine.  For example, I cleared ram and installed Super Jackpot Party.  It worked without issue, with the standard button panel.  It's just Star Trek that seems to be an issue.

Random question - should I have any jumpers installed on J14?  Browsing the group, I saw mention of setting the cabinet ID there.  But J14 is also the cable for the button switches.  I did a continuity test across the cable and didn't find any jumped connections.

No jumpers are used on a BB2.  If you replaced the CPU with an NXT3.2 CPU, making it a BB3 Blade machine, jumpers are "sometimes" needed for certain games.

Just throwing this out there.  I'm thinking that might be a BB1 game that requires a TSE box, where the error would occur unless a TSE fooler box is connected and it's looking for a TSE box to be present. 
Because only a TSE box would be considered a "Top Video Server", a BB2 has no such box, the top display and bottom are both connected to the main CPU's video, there is nothing even close to a "Top Video Server" on it.

There are two Start Trek games that are named very similar.

What's the exact game ID and CF card size on your game CF card?

Yep, this is a plain NXT2 (to my knowledge) - with one VGA and one DVI port.

I'm trying to run the 6 episode version.  It's a 4GB card with game ID SA66-000-1071.  I'm using a 512MB ram clear card (SCLR-000-1851).  Says OS Family H9.25, and I've tried H9.25 and H9.27.

I did buy a TSE box a while ago to try to debug this, but haven't used it yet as I need to make up a cable for it.  That may be my next step.  Note, this isn't a TSE Fooler, but a box I bought on eBay.  I don't have a CF card for it, so not sure if it will work the same.

I've only loaded the other version that's 2GB.

But it another post, it says you have to enable all six games.  Might have a look at this post.

And your screen says the Advanced Options aren't available until all 6 games are enabled.   

Wondering if once you enable all six, that there is an option to disable a top box is in the Advanced Settings?

Yeah, I wish I had the 2GB version to try.

I did see that post (and sigh when they call it the #1 BB2 game and I can't get it loaded!).  I did set up all 6 games and get the error screen.  I also tried just setting up 1 game to see if that would give me a different result - still get the error.

The advanced options don't seem to be available until the game is fully loaded, which it never gets to (as it blue screen errors before then).

Others mentioned it could be a hardware problem with my setup, but other games seem to work, and I can't seem to find a way to determine what problems it may have...

Has me stumped.

Only thing left I can think of is to review the machine logs.  Should be an option to view the logs in the setup screens.

And just look for any odd error messages that might give a hint about the problem, like any message about video or display.
