Need help finding coin comparator

Hello everyone I recently started working on this IGT slot machine. It's a double diamond.
I have narrowed down the issue with the error 21 code we were getting. Seems to have a bad coin comparator.
I have added pics for reference
Where would I find this part or one that will work ?

Also it looks like the previous owner taped a part on the comparator I added a pic of that as well. Does anyone know why this is taped here lol?

Remove that tape that's holding the lost coin weight.
Just let the lever swing freely.
Try these 4 things for better coin acceptance...>>>
 
1). Using a small jewelry type screwdriver, stick it in the hole next to the patent pending label, and turn the coin sensitivity dial all the way counterclockwise...pretty much anything you throw in will pass.
Normally, I turn that coin sensitivity potentiometer dial fully clockwise, and then turn it clockwise a 1/4 turn to get you in the ballpark. Too far counterclockwise allows Canadian quarters and slugs to get thru.

2). Also, wiggle the small 2-pin Molex connector plug that's on top of the coin comparitor.
Those two wires are for the magnetic coil that pulls in the rake behind the CC.
The rake has to be pulled in for the coins to go straight down into the coin-in optics underneath the CC.
Sometimes the 2 male pins that the plug is pushed down onto become a bit oxidized...sort of like what used to happen to car battery terminals.
Wiggling the connector sometimes promotes better contact between the male & female pins inside and gives you a little better coin acceptance.

3). Finally, swap out the quarter for a fresh one.... sometimes that helps promote better coin acceptance as well.

4). Using a can of compressed air, pull off the coin comparitor, and blast some air into the sandwiched coin-in optics boards below.
There are 3 holes in the sandwiched black plastic boards that allow infrared light thru to "see" coins falling thru in between the optics.
If there's garbage, dust, lint or paper stuck/blocking any of the holes, the coins won't get registered back to the machine's computer (MPU).
The coins essentially get "eaten", instead of adding credits to the game.

OMG Slugs and Canadian Quarters in the same sentence......
I will have you know that a Canadian quarter is good for at least 18.5 cents ! 

On the topic of posting pictures - take them with your phone - email them to yourself. You will be given the option to reduce the size of the picture.
Those reduced sized ones will post fine.

Is the issue the coin comparator ? generally speaking if the coin does not match it doesn't give you grief it just dumps out to the coin tray or if the divertor solenoid is bad then it dumps to the hopper.
You don't get a credit, but you don't get an error either.

Typically a 21 is caused by the optics directly below the comparator.

People used to make copper slugs out of pipes, the exact size of an American quarter. 
The copper content passed the coin comparitor no problem.
With the coin sensitivity dial turned clockwise about 1/4 would thwart the Canadian quarters from getting thru. 
It was a common problem with casinos located close to the border...them Canucks....gotta keep an eye on 'em!

Ok thank you for the info on the error code.

So instead I pulled out the coin optics and cleaned everything all up and put It back in

Now the error code 21 is gone but we get error code 12 lol

I took pictures of the coin optics as I was cleaning them up for reference. I did have alcohol on the board in a couple pics that’s not something gooey on the board lol.

So I’m not sure what is up with it now. I’m gonna download the manual for it because it looks like it was trying to do a setup mode or something. If I pulled the handle it would roll the reels and instantly hit a jackpot on first try lol.

I feel like we need to set up the machine somehow with a menu or something controlled by the buttons on the machine maybe ?

Ok so I removed the tape and added a nice new quarter to the comparator. I also completely cleaned out the coin optics assembly and added pics above ^ . You think the comparator is ok? It looks like it may have burned up inside the box a bit, or maybe a couple components on the board failed. I’m wondering if this is why I’m getting error code 12 now ?

When I had the power plugged in, the light on the comparator was not on at all.








Update : looks like I’m going to have to de solder the board battery and solder in a new one.

Your comparitor may be okay...I don't know yet.
Adjust the sensitivity fully counter clockwise.
The circuit board inside is tough.
The LED lite on the CC will not come while the door is open.


A [12] error means the battery needs to be changed.
The machine was in an OFF state for a long time.
The battery was trying to save the machines settings and internal memory accounting.

Turn OFF the machine, pull out the MPU.
Unsolder the battery, solder in a coin cell battery holder and stick in a new battery.
When you power on the machine, you may run into a code [61].
Report back and we'll tell you how to clear it.
If you have a working bill acceptor, you may need a SET015 chip to re-enable it.
Below is a photo of some coin cell holders that we use.
You can buy a 1/2AA 3.6vdc battery with leads if you want to.

BTW You did a good job cleaning the goo out of the coin in optic holes...it should register coins going in...if not, we have a small trick you can try.
