Check your cables, they must be pin 1 to pin 1.  Bench test your set up with different cables.

You have power to the mastercom?   It lights up?

Didn't you have it working to post the pictures earlier?

Individually, each one works.  No matter which combination of connections that I use, I cannot get them to work at the same time.  I think you may be onto something.  In another thread you told me to order cables from the following website:

http://prowirecommunications.com/store/product335.html Link dead as of May 2025. This is why it's important to add an image too!

You also mentioned that I needed to specify pin 1 to pin 1.  I did not do that, and it looks like the website ships them as pin 1 to pin 4.  :(

I guess that's my next step...exchange the cables and specify pin 1 to pin 1 as I cannot figure out for the life of me what to do next.  Is there any way that I could verify if I have pin 1 to pin 1 now to avoid wasting time and shipping charges.

Thanks,
Jason

Take one of the cables and put both ends in front of so both end are positioned exactly the same.

The wire colors should match 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to3 and 4 to four.

The standard cable is 1 to 4, 2 to 3, 3 to 2 and 4 to 1.

If you look at them exactly you should see what I mean, also look at the short cables you probably got with the card reader or display.

Attached is a text file of the image on the chip.

I don't see the text that is scrolling but you can see text in the file (right hand side).

Does anyone know specifically what address the scrolling text is at?

If I remember correct it's on 1980 & 6170. 1 is for top line & other for bottom. You have to make sure you don't change anything else.

Go the "modified to data" cables back today and both panels are working 100% with one Mastercom 250.  Now I just need to get the custom EPROM going and this project is a wrap!

Thanks to everyone who helped me put this together and for the troubleshooting!

Any idea where I can get these cables. The link leads to a company that no longer offers them. I've searched a bit on the internet with not much luck.

Thanks,

You can still get them from the link, choose pin 1 to pin one (data) in the drop down choices.

I did that (it said they were on backorder). When I clicked "add to cart" it said this item is no longer available. Maybe it won't let me order until they're in stock??

I know this is old, but I found it useful and I am sure others are new to working with these like I was. To add to this regarding the LED card reader ring. You don't need two mastercoms and you do not need a mastercom at all if you are only doing the LED ring and not the display. If using the Mastercom, you can just remove the wire from pins 2 and 3 and this breaks the communication to the mastercom and the LED ring does what it is preprogrammed to do, the random flashing lights. I have seen these preprogrammed at many different speeds. My part#305198 goes pretty slow. #326126 moves very fast. I can't say this is true across the board as I only tested these two. I assume it is preprogrammed, but whatever as it is not effected by what the mastercom is programmed for it to do.

If you are only doing the LED ring you can just use a 12VDC power supply to power it. The pinout for the EPI wire is...
1 - 12VDC
2 - SCL (data)
3 - SDA (data)
4 - Ground

The connectors are RJ9 which is a 4 pin 4 conductor. It's basically a telephone connector. You can buy the connectors on Amazon, 20 for $5, and the crimp tool for around $15. So you don't really need to buy the cables.

When looking at the connector with the metal pins facing you and the wire would come out the bottom, pin 1 is the left and pin 4 the right.

I did one machine with the mastercom and display and I did another machine without a mastercom with a mini monitor. The picture is with no mastercom.
