WMS NXT 3.2 - Why can I not get into full admin set up area??
« on: August 03, 2025, 06:55:08 am »
Being more of an IGT guy this WMS is just killing me. I mean, I feel ridiculous having to ask, why oh why can i not seem to get into the admin level menu so I can input settings like time, date, etc... basic setup. No matter what I do after the clear, turning key, or pressing the diagnostic button I still only get sound and touch screen setup buttons when clicking setup. I did at one point actually succeed in getting to the admin menu but cannot replicate what I did to get there. Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Never had a problem on mine.

Unless there were any credits still on the machine, or if I forgot to open the metal door on CPU box (really easy to forget to open the CPU door).

Make sure the metal door on the CPU box door is open, and the switch it closes when the metal door on the CPU is closed is actually open.  (if I recall it's spring loaded to always move to the open position, and the metal door latch on the CPU box has to put force on it to hold the switch closed, so it should automatically move to the open position if the metal door latch on the CPU door isn't holding it down in the closed position).  Then with the main door open, boot up, and once it boots, press the white diagnostic button.  Should give you the full admin setup menu options.  Otherwise it only gives you the non admin options like volume adjustment.

so when you are referring to the white button you are talking about the diagnostic button on the left under the ticket printer? And yes, I believe I am having some challenges with the main door not fully closing.. this might just be the issue.... or that O have been keeping the door closed through the process. Will get busy on this sucker and report back shortly. Thanks a ton!

Ok, still cannot get to the full admin menu so i will post steps I am taking:

1. Powered down, I take out game and OS card and place clear card into OS slot.
2. Power up until it finishes and tells me to power down and replace cards.
3. Powered down I take out clear card and emplace OS and Game card.
4. Turn on with main door left open.
5. Once boot is completed screen says Call Attendant and Configuration in progress
6. I push white diagnostic button in and get no change in the screen
7. I turn the key on right side exterior and limited admin menu comes up
8. Pissed and feeling stupid, I eye ball the cliff outside to see if it is a good fit for this machine. :0

Thanks, I really appreciate your patience with me.

For some reason your main door is not reading as OPEN. Based on your photo, it just shows RESTART. It should show OPEN DOOR M. Also if this is NXT3 or OS H13, when the MAIN door is open, your Emotive Lights should be cycling a RED Light pattern. I dont see that in your photo. What game are you trying to load? Do you know if you or someone who you got the machine from Jump the door switch to always be closed?

That would do it!

(No on pressing the diag right when it boots.  That's just done "after it boots").

But coolwave is right and caught that!  If the main door switch isn't seen as open, no admin either.  The front doors seperate so it can be opened to just replace the cashbox daily without having any access to the CPU or diag button for admin setup as the "inner" door still blocks access to the diag switch and CPU.  On most machines they open together so you don't actually open two doors, there's a cam that "usually" holds the two together so it seems like it's only one door.   Only when the "inner" metal door is opened, allowing access to the whole inside of the machine, it opens the main door switch, which can commonly get jammed and not open so you have to pull the large blade switch out manually.

The big flat blade switch that's above the bill acceptor is the "inner" door switch indicating physical access has been gained to the diag button, CPU, etc.

The BB2 and BB3's inner door switch there can easily get stuck and not open the switch when you open the inner door (they're old...).  If you pull back and forth manually on the large blade switch, you can see the behavior, it's always closed when the doors are closed, but also has a position to keep it showing closed even with the door open, as well as the position where it indicates to the machine it's open.  If it doesn't report it's open, no admin access.   If the sound cable is connected to the CPU, you know the main door is seen as open by the door switch because it makes loud beeps when the door switch detects that it's opened and shows open on the screen.

With the machine powered up.  Move that large blade switch above the bill validator back and forth and make sure it beeps and indicates on the screen that the door is open as coolwave mentioned before you press the diag button to enter the setup menu.

I've attached a photo of the MAIN DOOR switch. If its stuck, pull it out. This is a 3 step switch. Push In is CLOSED, middle is open, pull out is CLOSED. Hope this helps.

Yes.  If you pull it all the way out, it's so you can make it think it's closed without closing the door (to test without actually closing the door).   Fully pushed in, closed with the door actually closed.

In the middle position that it "should" go to by default when the door is open is what you want it to be at.   It gets stuck with age so it sometimes doesn't go to that default position when the door is opened.

The middle position so it clearly shows open, is what you want the switch at when you push the diag button.

If you still don't get admin settings.  Boot up and do not press the diag button.

Just take a pic of the screen after it boots and you have the door open, and the door switch in also in the open (middle) position.

Wouldn't matter what game it was setup for.  All games function the same way to access all the machine settings.

The blade switch you posted the pic of with the red box around it, just put it in the center postion if it isn't already before pressing the diag button.

It doesn't have to be set that way when you boot up the machine. It doesn't matter what position it's in when you boot the machine.

You can open/close it all you want after the machine has booted without any issues.  It should be fairly obvious if you move it from an open or closed position after it has booted.
Unless the audio plug is disconnected, it beeps loudly several times anytime the switch is moved from a closed to open position.

If you've never setup a BB2/BB3 machine before, you'll have a tough time without a video for reference.

There's plenty of setup videos on youtube though.

This is for a BB2, but it's pretty much the same on a BB3 machine.  And different machines of the same model can have the diag button in different locations, but the button looks the same wherever it's located.  Yours looks like a BB2E with an upgraded NXT 3.2 CPU and looks exactly like the one I have.

Setup for a machine with no Tito card, but has a working printer attached.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5frTkXd75GQ

If you have a Tito card, or don't have a printer, there are other videos that show how to set it up with/without those options depending on what your full setup is.

Thanks a bunch everyone! Looks like that blade button was indeed the problem. I must also add that the additional link to the video helper for configuration has been very helpful.... now am just stuck on a few last items like the printer having a com error and a few other minor glitches. Thanks again all of you gurus!

Ok guys, I have managed to handle most all the setup except I am really struggling to get the printer configed correctly and as it is erroring out it stops us from getting into the game at all. I fear that I may have to load some custom drivers or software for the printer as it does not simply configure based on the netplex setting or other offered settings, and now I recently was able to determine that I have a Gen2 RS232 printer. I believe that I have tried all the base offered printer settings but none seem to do the trick. AS i understand it there are 2 versions of this printer, the netplex version and my RS232 which does not appear to be netplex. Any insight on this would be very helpful. Worse case is that I guess that there may be a way to just act like ther eis no printer in the system, but would much rather get it configed right.Thank you!

ok, i BELIEVE I got the printer configed correctly as the error is gone, now the last thing showing is a call attendant message..... see attached image. So just to share some background on this unit....... bought it about 10 months ago, it was in perfect working order. I then went and did the stupidest thing...... I pulled out the Jur and SPI chips and upon putting them back in broke pins..... ugh i know.I then bought new chips and a clear chip all identical to the originals. and so here I am now trying to get this baby back to working order. thanks!

So in the end it all really came down to being a very difficult blade switch..... it was ther reason behind all the challenges. Finally I was able to tape it into the correct position and the call attendant went away, she took money and played. thank you all for the assists!

You shouldn't have to tape anything really.
Behind that blade switch that goes in and out, there's an old white cherry switch plunger the blade pushes against.
Maybe the cherry switch is the problem?
Also, check the screws supporting the "blade" ...there's sometimes a missing spacer on a screw that enables the flat metal blade to slide easily.
It could have fell off once and someone put back in the screw, but not the spacer.
