S2000 I/o card connections
« on: April 29, 2026, 07:42:25 pm »
I have an igt s2000 5 reel multi line machine here and I’m having issues with I/o card connections on the door cards. I currently have the plug from the machine connected to the multi line display on the left side of the glass. I have the small black connector on the display board connected to the the upright I/o card and from the bottom of that it goes to the top of the angled I/o card. The machine boots up but it’s giving me a coin-in jam and none of the buttons are working and neither the multi line display or the winner paid credits displays light up. Curious if I have something connected incorrectly or if I’m missing something

From the looks of that I have it correct. Should there be lights on the I/o cards? The display has a green light on the back of it. Could I have a bad I/o card or display?

Ok so I’ve been playing around with the I/o cards in the door I can get the bets placed display to light up and I can get some of the betting buttons to light up but I’m still getting the coin in jam. I have the jumper connector in place of the comparitor. When I had the buttons lit up I tried entering the settings but the buttons wouldn’t change any menus. I have the cards wired up like the photo, I’ve been swapping the cards around and making sure they work, and trying combinations of 801 and 802 cards. Possible bad card or something plugged into the wrong spot?

Or you have credits on the machine?

Cash out then try into the settings again.

You haven't tried a new I/O card yet? Very common failure. The card responsible for the coin handling functions is the 801, the one at a slant in the door. (or an 802 if the sockets are addressed)  Always try a new I/O card first.

Also, what MPU do you have? 50X or 1270?  I repair at least one 50X MPU per week that has a 'coin in error' due to a SENET circuit fault. Very common. Usually caused by someone 'hot swapping' I/O cards or the MPU.
1270 MPU's almost never have SENET circuit faults.

Less likely is a backplane fault on one of the SENET sockets. Usually a small inductor burns open.
I Repair IGT 50X, 1270, 039, 044, and S+ MPU's. Contact me at slots@lookelectronics.com for more information.

Sorry to have disappeared. I was busy and didn’t have time to play with my machines. Anyways I was able to spend sometime this evening and I played around swapping the I/o cards around, 801 and 802 cards changed with working and tested in other machines. Still get the coin in jam so I checked the mpu card, it’s a 504 card which I swapped with a working machine and I get the same thing. The only part I haven’t swapped is the led credits per line, which sometimes lights and sometimes doesn’t. I don’t have a spare to swap. Could that be my issue? It seems to be the first part in the circuit

I'm surprised swapping the I/O cards didn't clear it.
You may need to open and close the door a couple of times in order to clear the coin-in jam message with the known-good MPU board? Not sure.
I've never had this problem with my S2000's.

If you put this questionable 504 MPU into the other machine, with the other machine's chips, do you get a coin-in jam message on that machine also?
Trying to rule out the questionable MPU board.

Yes it can be the line display. It can also be the credits played etc display. It is at the end of the chain so you can just unplug it for testing. Something is interferring with SENET communications in the door, or it is an MPU problem if it follows to another machine as Bunker suggested above.

Any defect in the door SENET components results in a 'coin in' error. That is just because it is the only thing checked by the software as it boots up. If the problem is in the cabinet, you usually get a 'meter disconnect' error. You can get either due to an MPU component defect.

I have tried the I/o cards in other machines as well as the mpu board and they work fine in the other machine with no errors. I’m thinking maybe it’s the line display board. At this point it’s the only part I haven’t swapped out. I don’t have another one handy tho to test with. Is there a way to take it out of the circuit to see if it’s the issue? Or do I need it there to have it all connected?

Unplug the 14 pin connector from the cabinet and plug it in directly to the vertical I/O card (or slanted one if that's where the short cable goes now). Not using that short cable with a black, smaller connector on one end. Bypasses the whole line display. It will work without it.

Ok so I unhooked that display and went to the vertical card and now all the buttons seem to work and I’m able to go through the settings and such. The error I’m getting now is seven segment display mismatch. Could that be it missing the credits per line display? Or something else?

Check 7.2.7 in the menus (7 segment display type) and make sure it matches your display in the door.  5-5-2 or 6-6-3 digits.  The machine doesn't know if the line display is even connected, but does check the door LED display.

Ok so I changed the setting for the display from 5-5-2 to the 6-6-3 and I can get the machine to accept coins and spin the reels. The only thing I’m missing now is the left hand bets per line display. I guess it’s safe to say now that my display is bad and I probably need a new one?

Also my machine has the 4 credit values how do I set this up? I’d like to have the machine accept $1 coins and the display is for 1, 2, 3 and 5 cents. Is this possible? Where would I set that up in the settings?
