i know this is an old topic but i just received a bb2 cpu that also is marked with "EMI upgrade v1.0"  the only difference is that i can physically see is the lid surface has copper all around the edge for improved grounding and static resistance
so i am very curious about this too, must have been a field update?

EMI means Electromagnetic Interference.
They just basically added some better shielding for the audio stuff.
I suppose to improve the audio for the Bose sound system.

I figured that’s what it was. I’ve never seen a CPU with the copper fingers lining the entire lid surface.
