Convert 25c machine to accept $1 tokens
« on: April 14, 2026, 06:59:17 pm »
Hello...

I have acquired a large collection of $1 casino tokens and wanted to ask what it would take to convert my 25c S+ to use these for play.  What parts would I need to acquire?  I would love to see these in play and hear that loud clang sound again!

Thanks for your info!

If you're using smaller coins right now, like quarters, then for starters, you need a larger coin head slot for the coin to fall thru.
A smaller wheel shelf or the coins will jam up the wheel in the hopper bowl.
POssibly a wider spaced pinwheel too...check and see if your coin will fit on the wheel without jamming up the hopper.

Larger coin-in optic guides..>>> IGT calls them "encoders"
These are the black plastic pieces with the three holes sandwiched between the two coin-in optic boards.
And lastly, one coin in place of whatever you presently have as a Sample Coin on the coin comparitor (CC).

Starting at the reel glass, 1$ denom inserts, $ coin head, $Coin Comparitor, reconfigure the four plastic cc holders to the full back position, hope you don’t break any!, $ encoder, move the coin triangle over to the left, $cc harness, large coin pinwheel for hopper, $ shelf wheel, large coin knife. Most dollar hoppers had two springs and a spacer attached to the hopper bowl. Not sure you will need that , I never tried dollar coins? If the spacer is needed then you need four spacers for the four screws that secure the hopper bowl.
If your machine has a bill acceptor, you might want to change the $ denomination, need a set chip for that.

I have all the parts to accomplish the conversion .

Thanks guys for the detailed reply!  I pretty much need to alter anything the coin touches+some.  Makes sense.  I think I'll keep my eye out for a $1 machine and hold on this project as it sounds expensive.

You can pretty much see the differences between a large (top) coin encoder, and a smaller quarter sized (bottom ) coin encoder.

Thanks Jim for hooking me up with the part needed for the project.  I'll report back with photos and details when I get to it.
