ANOTHER 1492 question (grey screen with white lines)
« on: August 22, 2026, 05:17:25 pm »
In my defense it was working when I picked it up

It's on a aristocrat video poker and after getting it home it decided that it was going to start giving me a tough time.  Grey screen with moving jagged lines.  Looked at the board and saw a resistor on the 27v leg that was burned. Replaced that but no results.  I'm sure it's a simple thing of i can just figure it out.  Anytime from the brain trust have any suggestions?

White horizontal lines are retrace lines. There are a few different reasons you can get retrace lines but if you are saying the screen is predominantly green and has white retrace lines the component that comes to mind is the PRA-B board for Green, or one of the three transistors around it, most likely 83G if it is a transistor. I suspect the PRA-B board though, the SMD video amplifier IC on those boards tend to run hot and after 20 years or so can short open which causes the color to drop low. The retrace lines are caused by the auto bias circuit reacting when it notices the color is missing, it keeps turning it up which overdrives the image causing retrace lines, just like when a flyback is turned up too high.

Sometimes to get a good picture of a CRT is to take a short video, play it back and take a screenshot of the video. You won’t get those dark shadows or missing sections of the image.
