Bad news. Jim believes that the head is good , but that the transport is bad. Updating the BV is to much of a cost at this time.

Edit: I made a mistake in testing. It is actually the head that is the problem.

When you insert the $1 bill, does it hold it for a second or two before rejecting it, or does it reject it immediately? Does the "Insert Coin" lamp flash (or does anything else happen) during this process?

The bill is held for just a second or two before being rejected. Nothing else happens or lights up when this happens.

I made the mistake when Jim was telling me how to test the head. I assumed that when the head accepted the bill that it was working, when in fact it was rejecting the bill. The correct procedure is for the bill to be inserted into the head, then spit out of the back of the head.

If it's holding it for a second or two before rejecting it, that's usually a sign that the validator is set to the wrong communication protocol for the machine.

With the power off, flip DIP switch 10 on the validator head to the opposite of its current position (ie. if it's currently set to off, turn it on, or vice-versa), then try again to see if it will accept your $1 bill and give you credit for it.

Moving pin 10 did not make a difference. All dips are in the off postilion except the 10 dip.
