GQ-4X Programmer

My new GQ-4X programmer is stalling during a chip read. It doesn't seem to matter what chip it is. Any suggestions besides tossing this POS!

Not sure about that specific unit but have you downloaded and installed the latest firmware and software for it?

As far as I can tell it is updated. I'm wondering if I don't have enough memory. It would read and file for a few chips then stall. I restarted the computer and was able to read a couple more.

Did it ever work properly when you got it, or has this stalling problem been going on since day one?

If you have another computer available (yours or a friends) you can fairly quickly install the GQ-4X software on it and try it to eliminate the problem being with your computer. Also when it powers up I think it tells you the software version, you can compare that to their website download page to make sure you have the latest version. Another thing, they have 2 different USB drivers, one for the older models and another one for the newer models of GQ-4X. Need to be using the right one. You can email their support people and they usually answer by the next day, at least when I have contacted them.

In case anyone else runs into this problem with the GQ-4X it appears the USB cable was the culprit. Put a new cable on and no stall problems, so far. Thanks to all that helped.
