just bought a bally 6000, already have problems
« on: May 16, 2016, 03:30:10 pm »
i bought a bally 6000. it worked at the persons house. when it booted, the reels would spin slow, then it would boot and take quarters. during play, the reels would spin at normal speed, but the left one went backwards. is that normal?  the bill acceptor didnt work. it would show green for a few seconds, then the red symbol. when i got it home, it showed error 88-3.  i pulled the mpu, checked the battery( had been replaced, 3.59 volts). no acid damage. now it doesnt boot.  the red light blinks, and the reels slightly energize to the beat of the blinking red lights. i was thinking maybe it didnt seat into the backboard, it doesnt have the same feel as an IGT. i pulled a reel and it appears to seat correctly.  i ordered clear chips, but now the red light has me nervous.  brand new to bally, so any and all advice is most welcome.

thanks
mike

It's possible that the power supply is bad. The Bally 5500/6000 and as early as the 5000 had power supply issues. They ran hot. The caps usually go bad.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

funny that you said that, i was just going to post an update. i noticed the power supply wasnt screwed to the back wall, it was just floating. the nuts were in the bottom of the cabinet. i tightened it up, re-seat the connectors, and the red light is gone, it boots up to 88 3 , back where i started.  what do i do abut the 88 3 ?

thanks

Hi -

Sounds like it needs a full clear.  Would try that next before messing with anything else.

Cheers.
