confetti screen

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have a GK, 3 (three) 3902 boards, and over a dozen different sets of software.  I switch stuff around a lot and don't screw things up.  Not blowing my whistle, just giving my experience level.

I recently picked up software for The Great Turkey Shoot.  Installed the software with a 17 Key Chip and got the correct menu.  Installed the base chip an all I get is a confetti screen.

Checked the base and game eproms, look good.  The simm's look good.  Cleaned all contacts with acetone.

Still confetti.

Idea's please.

If you have an eprom burner, read the base chip and report checksum to check against a known good chip.  Otherwise, there's not much you can do.  If your other software works fine in the cabinet, then there's probably something wrong with either the simms or the eproms.

Guess I should check into eprom burners as I have several other sets with something wrong, problem would be finding a known good chip to check against.  I have some sets that I should back up that I believe could be hard to come by, like 37 slots and Triple Action, and some early GK sets.

Where should I look for a burner and what do they cost?

If you read the chip with a burner and post the checksum, someone who has documentation or the chip working, can verify if the chip is good or not.  There are also gaming jurisdictions that post the firmware and the checksums associated with them that you can check your against.

As far as what burner, there are several models.  A lot of us use the model from mcumall GQ-4 with the 16bit adapter to read the base chips.

They are not the fastest ones, but for us hobbyists where speed is not the issue, it is more than adequate and it works with 99% of the programmable IC's used in slots.

Was it the base chip that was causing the confetti screen?

Base chip was good.  One of the game eproms read as blank so I was told that it probably shorted out.  Rick fixed me up with good base chips and then I had a bad pxl simm.  Rick came to the rescue again and now the game works, lots of fun.  Rick is the man.
