Battery Replacement

I am new to slots and have been doing a lot of research on machines. Question I have right now is about battery replacement. I picked up two machines and was thinking I should be pro-active about replacing the batteries, since I do not know when the last time they were replaced.  Is this a good idea or do I wait for them to die?  Is this an easy to do?  Do all i have to do is swap out the batteries and turn machine back on or is there a procedure I should follow? I am an engineer, so I can follow instructions.  


One machine is a S2000 with tickets, no coins and the other is an older coin machine ($.25). Model number on the plaque on the side says:B51320. I think it is from around 1993. I can't find anything with that model number and can't find any other model number inside or out.

The Triple Double Wild Cherry is an S2000 and
the bottom photo is the S+. 

Just fiddling around with these two platforms will make your hair grow grayer...  j/k

Thanks for confirming that it is an S+.  Will make my searches more efficient.

Inside the S+, there's usually a serial number on the side of the cabinet that would have the date of manufacture.
If not, there will be an MPU circuit board located behind the black knob on the tray.

All one needs to do is :
1. Open the door,
2. Turn off the power,
3. Push up with your knees under the coin tray, place aside,
4. Pull out the coin hopper, and place aside,
5. Then brace yourself as you pull straight upwards on the MPU tray knob to detach MPU from the 
.
It will be hard at first because the tray has probably been in there for some time.
Don't want you to bang your elbows or anything.

On the MPU circuit board will be revision stickers/labels usually with dates on them that will tell you around the time when the MPU was installed.
