Slant Top vs Uprights

Hello all,


With all things being equal should Slant Top IGT games be less than the same but in an upright version? Seem as though I am able to get Slant Tops for about $500 but uprights are sticking firm at about $700.

Yes, slant tops are generally cheaper because they're a pain in the butt to move and take up a lot more space. I'm not sure that you could pay me to take a slant top.

California, so I would assume most are "illegal" for a few more years...But us Cali folks always pay more for crap.

If you are within a few hours of Las Vegas or anywhere Nevada or Arizona you can likely find more choice and lower prices. Slant tops should be lower in price, they are considered undesirable by most people when compared to upright machines. They are just as much fun to play, but as mentioned they are much harder to move around and take up more space in your place. Patience is key when shopping for a slot machine. You'll find many sellers think their machine is worth much more than it is. If you've ever bought a car then you know the drill.

Don't forget, you can put a WTB (Want To Buy) message here on NLG and someone may make you a good deal on a machine, you never know.

Also, look thru the machines listed for sale in the NLG Classified Ads area to get an idea on pricing. As an example, look at what you could recently get for $200-$250 (plus shipping if needed):

Obviously you'd be purchasing the machine for your cabin in Nevada (or Arizona), but yes, you can find much better prices next door.

I actually like them BUT they're heavy as hell and take up a lot of space. If I had room I'd have another just to add to my collection.
With that said though, here in Southern California, they sit on Craigslist forever. There was one last week for free! It was a poker game.
They also have a lower door that has a tendency to fall off abruptly (when you're trying to figure out how to lower it) and break a toe or two!

I agree.  I like them, but they are spring a hernia heavy and do take up a lot of space.  I find them more comfortable to play though.  You can rest an elbow on them, you're looking down when playing instead of up, and can sit your beverage of choice on the top too (just try not to spill it into the button deck!).

For free? Where? I have only seen working ones from $500-$700! People think they are that much around here.


Yes I have the room but want a upright too someday. Those are pricey too.

I like to play them in a casino for the same reasons you give. But for buying and moving a machine into my house (or a friend's house) I prefer an upright. My back and knees complain too much otherwise.

I do like them and just have been a little easier to find for me. Again, the uprights are more costly for me at least but the slants seem to be asking a fair markup from what you all are saying on here. I cant find a nice working one at all for less than $500......yet

How far are you from the western edge of US civilization? (Cal-Nev border)   

There are some slot dealers in Nevada and Arizona that might make a road trip/vacation trip worthwhile, plus you could make a stop in Vegas if it worked out. And stopping there could be a way to finance your whole trip - maybe.

BAHAHA...Western edge! Yep you go anymore West it gets pretty nuts, but the weather and scenery is nice. 
Agree, I am thinkin I need to head to LV again. I usually go there 1-3 times per year anyway but know I couldn't by at a dealer who checks ID for address... Will be patient and keep looking on CL for LV and see if that turns up anything. Again, if I can get better deals leaving the CA area then great.

As knagl said in a recent post, maybe you can tell the slot dealer you are putting the machine in your cabin or summer home near Lake Tahoe, NV. (it can happen!)

Some of the members here are from California, someone might let you know of any good deals they come across (if they don't snag it for themself).

Also, there is a "Found on craigslist/ebay" area on NLG, sometimes it has a deal posted, other times it is showing something that has an absurdly high price:
