Hopper malfunction

Got a double diamond yesterday at a yard sale. Seems to be working normally except when you cash out, a bell starts going off and you have 0000 In winner paid and 0005 in credits. The motor was locked up, but got it freed and going. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it just immediately pay out the exact win amount? Please post a good picture of the machine.

Sounds like it's configured to hand pay on all cash outs, or depending on the chip, all cash outs greater than one coin.  The 0000 0005 indicates that there's a hand pay required of five coins.  You can reset the machine by turning the jackpot reset key on the side of the machine once and releasing it -- that should stop the bell ringing and will make the game playable again.

At that point, the machine wouldn't have been trying to pay from the hopper -- I'm a little concerned that you said you got the hopper motor freed up as it is supposed to normally be "locked up" by the brake mechanism when not actively paying out.  To be clear, the motor should not turn freely by hand unless you have disengaged the brake mechanism.
