Just wanted to drop in and say hello!
I was on the old site for a short time until around 2009.  Being interested in pinball machines and video arcade games, slot machines became an interest as well when I picked up an 80''s Bally for a friend and had to learn how to get it running for him.  The great folks here were a big help and I managed to fix it due to the help.


I then picked up an S plus which I fixed up, then sold, then bought another, sold, etc.  I'm the kind of guy who likes to fix them up, make them look pretty, play them for a while and then sell them to get another.  In 2009 I sold my last slot and haven't had one since.


The past couple months I had been thinking of getting another slot, when I found a non working Haywire on Craigslist for a good price.  Unfortunately it was nearly 300 miles away!  I decided to load up some podcasts to listen to on the trip, and agreed to buy it.  I had a good trip both ways, apart fom some heavy head winds on the way back, and the seller was a really nice guy. 


I spent the next couple days getting it running and polishing it up.  Apart from a buzzing coin lockout coil and some kind of bill validatior issue, she's working good now!  I came back to the website to search for info on the couple issues I still have to find that my membership had been on the old site, so I've just signed up here on the new one. 


Glad to see the site still going, JACKPOT!

Loud vibration fixed!  The coin 'rake' was vibrating causing a loud vibration rattle from the coin entry area.  A search turned up the tip to replace the electrolytic capacitor in the coin comparitor, as the old one may be failing and causing loss of current to the coil that pulls the rake.  Cap replaced and all vibration is gone!


Bill validator fixed!  Odd clicking sounds followed by what seemed to be the correct boot up sounds but it would not accept bills.  I took the validator power supply out and found the largest of the 3 electrolytic caps had come completely unsoldered from the PCB. I had replacements for 2 of the 3 caps in the supply, all but the middle sized of the 3.  I replaced the 2 caps I had and the unit booted up and now takes bills!


I only have 1''s on me at the moment, so I haven't tried any other bills.  The sticker on the DBV-200 shows V 2.12-04-02 so I won't get my hopes up on it taking newer bills.  I have the tools to replace the flash EPROM with a socket and have an EPROM burner, heck I even have some m27c4001 on hand although they're 100ns and not the 90 that JCM lists and the software doesn't seem to be publicly available.


Pretty good progress, game is totally working now from only working fluorescent's when I got it home!  Gotta love easy cheap fixes!
Update:  The wife had a new $10 and $20, it accepted them both.  I guess that means it's running updated software past the version sticker.  Not sure I need to bother with the EPROM socket swap if it takes the bills I'm most likely to put in it.

I just got back to this, was on vacation for a while and missed it when I got back. Good job on getting the noisy rake solenoid and bill validator power supply fixed, those old electrolytic caps go bad after a bunch of years have gone by.   

I agree, if the machine will take $20 bills then that will usually be fine for home use. The sticker that says ver 2.12 is probably not correct, someone may have updated the flash rom to newer software since it accepts the newer design bills. Your DBV will likely accept a good variety of bills.

The last software released for the DBV-200 in ID022/023 version was 2.61-04-03. The JCM document for it is attached below. I think it allows the DBV to work with most bills except the new $100 and possibly the purple $5.
