New Project, Ballys E2209-38

Pick up my 1st none E/M machine, long story short got an alert off craigslist and a hour drive and $50 I brought home a new Slot for my hobby. Seems to be all there and it comes with the "it worked 10 years ago just fine" before it was put in storage.
In the process of a deep cleaning and oil/lube of what I learned from the awesome group. I have not plugged it in, I'm in no hurry what so ever I'll play it safe and check and clean things not to short anything out.
I found and downloaded the 66 page pdf for the ballys series E 1980-1986, I've gone thur the section of the board and assume I'll need a battery, Any Tips or Gotchas would be appreciated in advance, I liked E/M machines for the lack of Electronics, taking a leap into the unknown. A leap into codes and pennys???

If the computer board has a NiCad battery remove it and replace it with a 3.6V Lithium Ion battery but first remove Resistor R1 near the RAM chips and solder in a 1N5817 diode in the empty diode holes near the RAM.
Clean off any green acid from the NiCad battery with as solution of 50% white vinegar and distilled water.
Before powering up remove all electronic boards and clean their connector pins with a ink eraser.

thanks for the tip, I will be taking my time as this is a side hobby. Looks as if i've found my first problem, right or wrong there should be a fuse in that hole?


The battery looks to be sealed...
Has it been replaced? or does it look Original?


I will fully take everything apart and clean the cabinet, I will take your advise and clean the connectors.

Yes, your missing a fuse holder cap and the 5 AMP fuse..

How convenient, the main program chip has no label on it.
When you get it running go to test 6 and write down the 6 digit program number, print it onto a label and stuck it over the exposed window.

They will sell you a whole fuse holder but Grainger or any electrical supply house would have them.

Not the same, Bally was old school Bakelite. I have a box of them and could mail one to you in a padded envelope.

Check your inside the machine too. They do go bad. Caps don’t fit tight and cause bad connections.
