S Plus mpu question

With the 2 different style MPU boards; The one with the blue volume knob on the board vs the one you change the volume in the menu is one preferable over the other? Why the difference? Thanks

The ones most of us prefer are the ones with the volume knob.  These are the 10mhz versions that work with a wider set of chips and don't suffer from static in the speakers.  IGT later released a more "advanced" board that operated at 16Mhz, did away with the volume control, but also had a requirement that the eproms needed to be 120 ns or better to run correctly.  They also messed up the sound circuit, the 16 Mhz board are known for the hiss and occasional pops during gameplay.  The credit roll up sounds are a bit different, sounding more "modern."
