Winning Streak Acting Up

Good Morning to All. So I’m playing My Winning Streak game and All of the sudden I get an error “coininJ” I try resetting it open/close door reset key and little button on board door. When I close the door I get “ROON SOUND” and can’t do anything until I shut the machine off and back On again. When I turn it on, I get the bong noise and then after 10152 the display that showing the version goes blank. This machine Wayback win I replaced the upper and lower power supply with that modification that one of the other members put out and it was working great. Any suggestions?

If that display is turning off possibly the replacement power supply is going bad? I will check those voltages, Any other suggestions Would be appreciated TU NLG members for ALL your Fantastic help,

Roon Sound is saying one or more of the Sound ROMs are bad.  Try pulling them out and reseating them.  It's uncommon for ROMs to go bad. 

Sometimes getting strange error messages means a bigger issue.  Pull the boards and look for anything foreign on them (a random coin, tape, etc).  Those can trigger random errors like this.

In regards to the previous poster, was the Dotmation display working?

When it was working, The “DOTMATION” display worked fine. Now
when I turn the machine on and It shows “coinJ” when I close the door and then it displays rom sound. About 15 seconds pass and the “DOTMATION” screen goes blank.
Is this Normal or should it be staying on?
Reason being is the machine was modified 2 years ago with the computer power supply to to replace the top one that burned out. If the “DOTMATION” is supposed to stay lit up, maybe the computer power supply that was installed to fix the old ones failure has something shutting down on it?

FINALLY Found the issue, and A Gigantic THANK YOU TO “PLAYKLAX01”. I didnt pay much attention to the Dotmation display but it led me to the issue. After approximately 12 seconds after turning the machine on that display would fail. I found My Graphing Ampmeter Clamp and installed it on the output of the power supply. I wired the Surge Protector to a timer that would turn the machine on Every 20 minutes and I noticed a high current spike right as the Dotmation was failing. The Audio from my camera was screaming out BILL VALIDATOR. I pulled out the POS, and found the gear grease was All dried up. DBV series was the culprit.

Good find!  Honestly, the DBV would have been my last guess.  Glad you didn't give up on just the usual suspects.  But as I've found with these machines, and you now have too, something completely unrelated can cause errors that point you in the total wrong direction. 

When I had Winning Streak I was having problems with it locking up and the Dotmation displaying 'Bad Packet' or 'Bad Page' with like an '0XFF0011', something like that.   Totally random times and out of nowhere.  I was focused on the Dot system, board, power supply, chips.  I began to think it was a bad Rom or something, but when I was doing housekeeping on it that's when I noticed a piece of random scotch tape under the I/O board in the bottom cage.  It was making weak transient connections between incorrect contacts, screwing things up.  Removed the tape, never had the problem again.  That's why I mentioned tape in the previous post.  It seems so innocuous, and people would think 'ehh, that won't make a difference.', but it can.  If it's not supposed to be there, it doesn't belong there.

As these machines age, I'm sure this won't be your only headscratcher.  But you have the right mindset for troubleshooting, that's important!  Know that these machines themselves are strong (except for the power supplies) and things don't often 'officially' break on their own.
