New to the hobby! Would like some guidance

I have plenty of experience fixing electronics and just got this igt draw poker machine and would like to revive it.
Seller says it was working when it went into storage 25 years ago...

When plugged in the lights, fan and monitor come on but display either a horizontal white line or what looks like a corrupted mess depending on the position of the switch on the top of the crt between the adjustment knobs. Also the led on the mpu comes on
But nothing will happen if ypu put a coin in it just falls into the tray

I pulled the boards out to check the battery and it's dead and some of the caps are leaking very slightly and probably bad

Any info on this machine or next steps would be greatly appreciated I've been looking but haven't seen any pics of a similar machine with the same boards

Hello and welcome to NLG

A F2 game is a good place to start in the hobby. We can almost always get them going. You might need to send a board away for some repairs but our goal is to avoid that if possible.

Just a note to be very careful when handling the monitor. It is safe to pull it out but do not remove or lift the anode cup that is attached to the tube unless you know the proper way to discharge it.

The horizontal line is probably a different problem than the scrambled screen in your photo. What we see now is likely one of two things. Either an IC that needs to be lifted and cleaned OR a mismatched set of game chips. We normally start by suggesting you carefully pry up any IC that is in a socket and re-seat it. If you see any oxidation or corrosion remove the chip completely and gently clean the legs with an eraser. Take good pictures so you remember which way the chips go in the sockets.

If that doesn’t resolve the scrambled screen reply here and we can talk about options. You will need to take clear pictures of the game board board so we can see what we are dealing with.

Your monitor is an RGB1401, be happy you have an image. They can be temperamental and exclusive parts are not available. There are a few of us who can help you but the fact that it has a picture is a good place to leave it!

Looking at the pictures Im not sure this is a Fortune 2. I would need Badbaud to weigh in, it has two boards.

That is not a Fortune II. It looks like one of the older Bally video games that Fortune Coin inherited.
In the deal Fortune Coin got a lot of Bally video games in an agreement that we would not design any reel type slots in competition.

Thank you so much for the monitor info I think the switch for the white line is just the set up screen for crt adjustments.

I removed all the ICs and reseated them and got no change.

Could some of the ICs put in upside down?

I too an new here but have become pretty good with the older IGT stuff with eproms.  Not sure about this MFGr but the small cup on the board and the small cup on the prom probably should be together. (same direction.

Ive never seen a board where the prom didnt occupy the entire slot that may be normal I suppose but weird.  But the machine is 1980's and the pros here will definitely help!!

Are you talking about the proms that are in sockets that are larger than the prom? If so this is somewhat common.

SirRicktov: Does the game play blind? Meaning, will it accept a coin and let you bet? Is this problem isolated to the video? And yes, if you get the white line only when flipping the switch, that is a setup switch which gives a horizontal line for initial setup of the CRT. You don’t need to do that.

There is a ton of troubleshooting that would need to take place. The 5v circuit needs to be tested to verify it is clean. All those caps should be tested. There is no way to know if any one of those ICs has failed without testing each one. In other words, you need to decide how much time you want to invest. I have some old machines that I tinker with for years hoping to find the silver bullet.the machines will never be worth the time we put into them so you need to decide if the game has value to you other than financial return.if you get it working it might be worth $250.

tinkering is what i love to do, I'm not in this for an ROI I'm in it cause it would be the coolest thing to me to fix and play! I actually bought 3 machines i have a similar keno machine as well

i don't believe it plays blind, coins just fall to the tray on the outside

ill test and replace the bad caps and install a new battery holder for a modern battery with the same voltage.

I checked and changed all the bad caps and the battery there was no change.
