Bally 809-zzb runaway hopper

I am new to this.  got a free Bally 809-zzb.  the systems all seem to function, but as soon as I plug it in the hopper runs continuously, it runs out of coins and then times out.  I reset the timer and same thing happens.  need ideas to check out, stuck contact? where.   something miss aligned?   I have looked over all wire and general no obvious issues.

On the left side of the hopper is the payout step up counter unit.
It’s possible that it has not reset and or is stuck on a payout.
The contract fingers should be near the 6 o’clock in the reset position before each game.
Behind the contract board is the reset plunger coil top left.
Press the plunger down, to reset the unit if needed.


Post a photo of the front on the machine for a better understanding of what you’re working with.
Also, post a photo of the step up unit.

if it's really an 809-ZZB, the schematic and other paperwork is on https://bingo.cdyn.com/slots/

if the hopper is running when there's no winning combination on the reels, that'd be a more interesting problem than there is a winner on the reels and the payout counter is not stepping up.

the 809-ZZB is an electrically stepped payout counter.  As coin eject, a roller arm closes some switches and a couple of them redundantly step up the payout counter.  if there's a problem in the circuit or the payout counter step-up coil is bad, then you get the runaway payout ... but a safety circuit should shut the machine down within a few coins.

if your machine is dumping the hopper, either the safety circuit is disabled or it's not really an 809-ZZB.
