A pirate is traveling across the Ocean and comes across a British navel vessle.
The captain yells to his first mate to bring him his red shirt. Without question the first mate retrives the shirt and the Captain puts it on.
A battle ensues and the Pirates come out the victors.

The first mate questions the captin about the red shirt, "Sir is it to show strength and boldness" the captain replies "No if I am hurt during battle the rest of the crew will not notice the blood and will continue to be inspired and fight on".

The next day they encounter not one Navel vessle but a whole armada of British ships. The captain calls for his first mate... The first mate says "I know I know, I will retrive your red shirt" The captain counters.... "not my red shirt... bring me my brown pants"
