Another SAVP question

 Picked up my new machine and waiting for the Ekey to set it up. In the meantime, I changed the batteries. While poking around, I found a static free envelope with the diagnostic key 014-21.  It must have bounced out of view during transport.  With the machine off, I put it into a USB port and pulled the paper on the switch. Turned on the machine and nothing showed up. Just the AVP screen. I tried the toggle switch in both directions but no change. Should I have seen something on the screen or is this something that only work's with the Ekey? The reels are turning..but slow

You need to download yourself an AVP User's Manual.  :Professor:

I have it and looked at it, but it doesn't say anything specific about just the diagnostic key by itself. I'm not sure if the one I found is good.  That's why I was asking..if I would see something on the screen with just the diagnostic key. Thanks

Which USB port did you plug it into?  It needs to be in one of the two behind the security door.

I tried both. .behind security door next to toggle switch.  Nothing comes up on the screen except the AVP logo. Just wanted to know if that was normal because I don't have the EKEY yet..or if I should have saw something

Yes, it should boot to the diagnostics menu when plugged into one of the USB ports behind the security door.  There's some menu options that won't be allowed without the Ekey 7 being plugged in also, but it should boot to the menu.  Did you allow it enough time to boot up?  It can take a couple of minutes.

I left it on for about 20 minutes.  When I first turn it on, I get a message to please check the DVI cable. But that's it. Both screens stay at the AVP logo and the reels slowly spin. If your correct, then even when I do get the EKEY..I'm still going to have problems. I know without the EKEY I cant do anything..but I'd feel better if I saw something happening.

The diag key you're using is probably bad.  You can get another from member RB.

Well..when I got the machine, I ordered an ekey for it and diagnostic key 014-21. The diagnostic key I found in the machine said 014-21.  Last night my diagnostic key came and I put it into the USB port and powered up. Nothing. Stayed on the AVP screen and didn't change. After about 10 minutes, the machine rebooted. So I'm leaning towards there's other issues going on with it. Both diagnostic keys didn't do anything. Maybe it will change when I get my ekey and put them both in together, but I don't have that luck. Someone else told me that just the diagnostic key alone should have brought up a screen. It won't let you do anything without the ekey...but it should have opened a screen.

Bad boot chip?

I'm not sure the age of your brainbox but I believe older 3.0 and 2.5 require that ticket switch next to the USB ports behind the security door to be flipped up or up towards the top lid of the brainbox.
