MEI SCN6607 RS232 Not Working

Hello!

I recently purchased a MEI SCN6607 brand new and when I power it on, all three LED's flash. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they do this. I read somehwere that it could be because it is unprogrammed, so I purchased just the head and tried that but am still getting the same error. Any help would be appreciated.

What machine did you try to put it in?

I am trying to get it to work standalone at the moment so I dont have anything I am hooking it up to. I read that it may need a host so I've been trying to get it to work by connecting it to a raspberry pi.

You'd probably need special firmware loaded into the validator to do something like that?
Normally, MEI bill validators are loaded with firmware made specifically for communication, via an interface board, to certain machines.

Im fairly new to this whole thing, do you by chance know how I might go about doing that?

According to the troubleshooting LED codes, you have an unprogrammed unit, but I believe you are getting a false code. The MEI bill validator must be installed in a machine in order to function. It has to communicate to a host.

Do you know if I am able to use a raspberry pi as a host? Or are there only certain machines it can comunicate with?
