WMS Dotmation Controller Testing

Hi there,

I have just received a Dotmation controller but it doesn't has any roms. Is there a way to test it at all without them or would I need to get those to get any sort of image out of the display?

You received just the Dotmation I/O board I take it?  You already have the Dotmation screen and power supply?  Assuming you have all three things, the only thing that could possibly display on the Dotmation would be the generic Williams logo upon startup, but I don't know if even that needs at least the system EPROM to display it.

The I/O board itself is rather bullet-proof.  Screen (rugged if handled well, just wears out/gasses out over time, nearly unobtainium today...) and power supply are the real trouble components.  I imagine you're putting together a Dotmation themed game, so why not just get the remaining EPROMs you need (should be pretty easy to get your hands on those) and put it all together?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have the Dotmation Screen and power supply as well. The generic Williams logo is enough for me to confirm but I don't think it will even do that without the Dotmation I/O roms.

I will see if I can find the EPROMS, I haven't had much luck looking for just the Dotmation ones by themselves though.

You will need the DMD Rom chips in the board for it to post the Williams logo.

What game are you installing?  I may have some DMD EPROMs available.
