Error 42 on S+

I have an s+ that had a non working bill validator. On startup the validator would engage but it would not accept bills. The machine worked fine using tokens. I installed a working WBA 12 that I was able to get a bill through and register credits. Every time I start the machine I get an error 42 as soon as the dbv is done starting up. I switched reel 2 with reel 1. Then I switched reel 2 wiring with reel 1 with the same result. I have done a door optics test and that was good. Any other suggestions to get this running again?

Make sure the digital display assembly  behind th reele  glass is tightened up. If it is loose it will  make contact with the reel and cause an error. Check the wires on the fluorescent  light fixture on the reel glass to see if they hang down against the reel.  Or anything else that would come in contact with the reel.

Messed around with this some more
When the reels go into the slow spin, reels 1 and 3 spin in 1 direction and reel 2 will spin in either direction
Does that indicate anything?

If you take the b/v out and start the machine does it work correctly? It doesn't have to be in the machine to start it up. Mine will start without it.

When machine comes ready, it goes straight back into error 42 with or without the dbv installed or with the door open or closed
Must have been a coincidence that it happened after installing the new dbv

Well you know I was just wondering at the coincidence. Have you tried after the maiden spin opening the door and turning the reel about 5 or 6 clicks and closing it to reset the reels? I had one do something like that once and it fixed it.

Maybe the optic on that reel is dirty?  And what Shaggy mentioned. That worked for me one time also.

Ended up having to clear and reset the board. Could never get the 42 to go away and it would switch between 41 and 42. Clear and reset has made it playable again.
