DBV 145-SS for IGT S-Plus won't pull the bill in.

I have an IGT S-plus machine with a DBV 145-SS bill validator. I enabled the BV with the set chip. On power up the BV cycles normally and when I close the door the BV bezel lights up, but when I insert a bill the BV head tries to pull the bill in but immediately reverses and rejects it. Dip switches are all in the off positions. Could the BV head be bad?

It could be the black power supply mounted on the left of the bill validator is weak or your bill transport behind the validator is bad.
try reseating all connectors.

Was this DBV-145 working ok in this machine at one time, or did it just get installed into this machine recently and it never has worked?

As far as I know it was the original BV that was working in the machine before it went into storage.The CMOS battery was replaced and then the machine 61 code wouldn't clear. So I cleared it by inserting a different program EPROM and forced a fresh write to the EEPROM on the mother board. That worked and so I returned the original program chip and cleared the 61 codes. I used a SET026 to re-enable the BV. The BV tries to pull in the bill but rejects it instantly.

I did some more reading on the forum and went with the advice to upgrade to a DBV200. Found a shop in Reno that will do it for me.

I think you will be happy with that decision. The DBV-200 gives you bill insertion from all 4 possible ways and has software that came along later in time so it is more likely to work with a larger number of bills that are in circulation now.

Keep in mind the DBV-200 uses a little more elec power, so the BV power supply in your machine may need to be upgraded also. It is the black module mounted near the bill validator, just to the left. The original bv power supply may work ok with the DBV-200 but often it doesn't. To tell the difference, the higher power models of bv power supply have slots for heat vents in the cover, the older less powerful power supply had a solid cover, no vents. Your machine may already have the better bv power supply with vents.
