Question about powering up an S2000

That’s the bad thing about buy used parts like these PS unit. You don’t know their condition except does it work or not??

That's for sure. Even if a used power supply works fine today the capacitors in it could be 15 or more years old and are on borrowed time. The electrolytic capacitors (wet caps) can be quite prone to failing after a lengthy number of years. They dry out internally and change value electrically, the reason "cap kits" are so popular for fixing older monitors. That's what I meant earlier about the power supply maybe being on its last legs.

I cracked open this power supply last night and noticed 2 leaking electrolytic capacitors leaking in the center of the power supply. A 4.7uf 50V and a 47uf 50V. I cleaned the area after removing the two dead caps. They read 0 on my ESR Meter. I have it back together, just need a machine to test it in. Hopefully it’s fixed. All the other caps tested good. It is quiet possible this PS was the source of all the problems.

If you still have the bad caps see if they have a 4 digit date code, curious how old they are. First 2 numbers are usually the year, the next 2 numbers are the week or batch code.

Which ESR meter do you use? I've been thinking about getting one for working on power supplies like this. Does yours work ok on caps in circuit or do they need to be removed from the board first?

My ESR Metrer does allow for on circuit testing. It’s an older model that has a analog gauge not digital. I picked it up off EBay a few years back. It’s become one of my go to tools.
