Bally 809-8ZD

I have a Bally 809 slot machine the only light that works is the fluorescent one that lights up the reals. I put new light bulbs in and still nothing? Also it doesnt accept nickels and when i hit the reset button it pays out and shut back off. Need help please, and thanks. Also, can anyone please tell me what size are the 3 fuses behind the hopper?

Sounds like the payout step up unit is stuck on a large payout.
This would be the unit attached to the left side of the hopper.

What are you calling a reset button? Is it behind the hopper? If yes that’s called a safety time. It shuts the machine off if there is a payout malfunction after a few seconds.

Thank you for your replies, sorry i dont know anything about how to fix a slot machine, or names of parts. I do have stuff printed from the internet about Bally slot machines, but it covers alot of machines and im not always sure im looking at the right stuff? Are all 3 fuses for the lights? I have 5A 250/313 fuses in them, and it had 2 slow blow fuses that i took out. It pays the max amount for the watermelons $5 even though i only hit the coin switch 1 time. Nickels just fall through to the change slot, it doesnt register any nickels when you put them in? The hopper isnt jammed, if i reset it it will spit nickels out again and then shut off. thank you for your help.

6 volt fuse is for the light bulbs. Fuse in the center 50 volts is for the most of the coils and switches.
Fuse on the right 120 volts is for the fluorescent lights and hopper motor.

If you’re not mechanically inclined, then an 809 Balley is not a machine for you. They can become very complicated to troubleshoot and repair.  Did you just buy this machine?

In regards to the runaway hopper check the following as a possible cause.
Photos of the payout step up unit which is attached to the hopper in most older machines.

Remove the hopper from the machine to inspect this unit.

In the second photo the contact fingers/rivets are near the 6 o'clock position.
Check to see if the unit in your machine appears to be in this position.
If not, the plunger coil on the reverse side upper left activates the release/reset mechanism.
By pushing the plunger in the cam should recoil back.

I hate to step in but you know me. An 809 is an electronic step up hopper and before the Step Up occurs it goes through the odds unit. With one coin it goes directly through the odds unit to the hopper. Second coin it goes through the 2x unit. Third coin the 3x unit.  4th coin the 4X unit. 5th coin the 5x unit.

My guess is if the hopper is not advancing it is probably in the odds unit being dirty. I would try it with one coin to coin 3 coin for coin and 5 coin. If it works and none of them or just one it is probably a dirty odds unit. There again, that's just my opinion.
