Author Topic: Bally E2096 Code 72 (Read 7190 times)

I repaired this slot a few months back and now it's developed a new problem.
It will coin up and handle pulls, reels stop, then goes to code 72.
I've switched the reel readers around (all three of them) and no matter where they are I always get the code 72,

Could I have 3 bad reel readers? I also read a post that said it could be a bad power supply. Any suggestions?

Machine is at the guys house about 50 miles away so I'm trying to help him by phone.

It has been my experience when it is spinning after index code 72 it needs to be serviced and cleaned around the 2nd solenoid for indexing sometimes there are a nightmare to service

Itâ€™s also possible that the second reel is turning slower then the other two reels. The center hub for the reels have needle bearings inside. If you rotate each reel and look on the left side of the reel hub, you will see a oil hole where a couple drop of oil goes. Also make sure nothing is rubbing on the reel. The light bulb shield can rub on the reels.

I have re-oiled the reels, they all appear to spin at about same speed, #1 stops first then 2 & 3 stop at the same time. Shouldn't 2 stop before 3?

Bob, they should stop 1-2-3. your problem is mechanical, more than likely, its the pivot point on the back main rod, take out the reel assembly, exercise each stop bar, you will notice one coming back extremely slow or not moving a lot. you have to make sure the spacers between the pivot points also are free and spin freely, lub all the points along that back rod that all three stop bars pivot on, I;m pretty sure this is your problem.

If reels 2 and 3 are stopping at the same time then you do have an issue with a pivot point. The top shaft should spin free as should the smaller one that the latch paws pivot on. Take a pair of small vice grips or pliers and grab those cross shafts. They should spin without moving item on those shafts.

I had the guy bring me the reel assemble and I cleaned/lubed. He picked it up about 2 weeks ago and it's been working great.

Help, another problem, I'm pretty certain the item in the picture is bad. It mounts on the side of the hopper plug. The machine was working great and I accidentally put a dollar hopper in the machine. It blew a couple fuses. Now as soon as the machine is powered up the handle solenoid pulls in, the coin diverter plate pulls in, after a couple seconds they both drop out. I don't know the part number etc because it came off when i wiped it with a rag. Also when i shake it it rattles and I can see a small piece floating around on inside.

any info, where to buy.

Contact Alan at K-Lar. He has all those cube relays. All you need is the voltage off the end and if itâ€™s AC or DC. I canâ€™t read the end of that relay.

All the info on the end is gone, I couldn't hardly make it out so I wiped it with my finger and it came right off. I took the picture before I wiped it off.
Maybe someone else can give me the info.

Gary, you should have one of those relays, I put one in the box of parts I sent you the last time.

Bob, glad you got that reel assembly working.

as with any trouble shooting procedure, especially when fuses are blown, go back and check all the voltages coming out of the supply, the +5vdc, the cross over, 8-10vdc, and the third loop, forget what it is, anyway three voltages.

I've ordered the relay from K-Lar.

Here's another thing about machine. The tilt light flickers every time a coin is accepted. Played fine until I blew the relay.
Any ideas why it flickers?

All of the items you mentioned are controlled by the I/O board, run test #2 and see what happens, this will test every lamp, solenoid, and displays, actually you could run through all the tests and make sure everything is working as it should, test 2 is as above, test 3 all switch inputs, 4 is the hopper, 5 is the reel reader test.

Maybe something goofy is going on with the I/O?

Jim,

Those cube relays have about 4-5 different voltages and some are AC, while others are DC. I Had to buy some from K-Lar a couple months back, because I only had 2 different voltages myself, and of course neither were the correct one I needed.
