Unable to clear 'Reels Disconnected' error


I have an IGT S2000 5-reel (Triple Double Red Hot 7s) machine, enhanced board. I have attached some pics of the board.


I was playing the machine fine and left it for about 20 minutes. On returning, it was displaying the error 'Reels Disconnected'
I have double checked board plugs and connections etc are good as far as I can tell, but am unable to clear the error by opening and closing the door, or restarting, or turning the operator key on the side.


Immediately on starting up there is power to the reels (you can feel them 'click' if you gently push them round). After the bill validator cycles and at the point where the reels would usually spin, power is lost to the reels and the message is displayed.


I have run some I/O tests
Processor Test - Main Door: 0 when open, 1-0-1 when closed
Processor Test - Reel 1,2,3,4,5 Optic: changes 1-0-1 as you turn the reel
Reel Lamp Test - all good, lights on every reel flash
Reel Strip Tests - shown 'Reels Disconnected' error


I have a KEY0045 chip and a IVC0224 chip (which I think are compatible with this machine), so could attempt a RAM clear procedure. Not sure if this would help. (Note: I have credits on the machine which I can't play)
Unfortunately, I don't have a spare CPU board to try in the machine (but can get one off eBay)


Some other things I've noticed
- I'm pretty sure the problem is not with the door optics or anything (failing to clear the error) because if I press the test button on the CPU board, closing the door takes it out of test mode and so it detects the door has closed. The main door test above also passes.
- There is no orange light on the I-O board at the side of the CPU unit (which may explain lack of power to the reels). I notice there are orange lights on the two I-O boards mounted on the door.


Any suggestions on how to proceed or things to try or test would be much appreciated.

Hi Derek,
Excellent description of problem!
 There are no LEDs on the I/O card next to the MPU but that does drive the reels.
With the power off reseat that I/O card and see what happens. If you have a spare try it. We don't see this problem  very often so I can't give you a definitive answer.
Assuming you have reseated the plug for the reels going to the motherboard I would start first with replacing the I/O card next to the MPU. Try a clear/key which probably won't help, followed by a CPU replacement.
Check the classifieds here I think Ken had some boards for sale better to purchase from him than Ebay.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

The reel harness connects directly to the MB & the reels should spin even with the cabinet I/O disconnected. You will get a meters disconnected error if you disconnect the I/O & power on.
