IGT S+ Dreaded 61 code
« on: February 24, 2019, 10:30:04 am »
I have a IGT S+ Double Diamond that has not been operating for 12+ years.  It initially worked great but after a move it would not work properly.  Too long ago to remember the details but now I really would like to get it going again.  I removed the board and noticed the battery attached.  After some research I picked up a battery and installed it.  Now I can only get the 61 code.  The only test button I have been able to locate is a very small white one located on the front of the metal case housing the main board on the left side of the cabinet.  I have pressed it  and the 61 code keeps coming back on. I have read several posting about this and now assuming I must get a clear chip and try that, but before I do I was hoping someone would have a better solution.
Any  help will be greatly appreciated.

Do some more reading...>>>

The machine is stuck in the [61-1] loop.
Best way out is with a Clear chip. (Vendors on NLG's front page sell them.)
If the DBV is being used, you'll also need a SET chip in order to enable the DBV again - after the clear procedure.

Thanks. I was afraid that would be the answer. No DBV so no SET chip. I'll get going on the clear chip.

Nothing too dreaded about it.  Sounds like you're in the 61 loop on an older S+ (based on your description of where the white Self Test button is located).  Your machine might not even go to 61-1, just 61, blank, 61.  That's fine, that's still the loop.  A clear chip should get you up and running quickly.

Directions on how to use the RAM clear chip can be found here: http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=16134.0

OK, I have the clear chip and have followed the instruction very carefully.  Everything seem to go well until I started getting 42 code.  Wheels spin very slowly and sometimes the center wheel turns backwards.  I see the code 42 is a problem with the no 2 reel  and I have repeatedly reset it by opening and closing the door but I still get the slow spin and code 42.  What is next?

41 is reel 1, 42 is reel two, 43 is reel three.

With the power off - Make sure your middle reel (42) is moving freely, no loose reel strip even slightly grazing the door while it spins etc.
Any little thing will cause the error.

If you use the white button to cycle through the various settings, then turn the jackpot key, close the door the error should clear.

If it returns you might physically move the reel baskets.  If the problem moves to a 41 or 43 because you moved it to the first slot the issue is with the reel optics.
If the problem keeps re-occurring as a 42 then look at the corner of your MPU board. There are 5 resistors one for each of the reel - you will note that 3 are dark and 2 are shiny new as you have only 3 reels. You can take one of the shiny new resistors and replace the theoretically bad one.

If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

In my joy and jubilation I failed to notice that no credits are held. Every win results in the coins paying out.  I am sure this is a set issue but not sure where to start. (My dear wife was quick to point this out)

Try pushing the cash out button. Sounds like it defaulted back to where you can turn off or on for the machine to hold credits or payout every time. This is done by pushing the cash out button at the start on a new game with no credits.

Thanks to member's help, We are really enjoying this Double Diamond machine but now I am wondering what chips I have as I would like to follow your member's advice on switching to Haywire chip and hopefully changing the reel chip to a higher paying one.  I have tried to determine chip number by pressing test switch until 4 appears in coin planed window. In winner paid window I have alternating 3633 and then 0 and then 3633 again.Credits window displays steady 0708. What does this mean?  :Scratch-Head:

3633 is only 87%.   Contact member RB for a high % haywire ss chip and a haywire capable SP chip. If your machine has a bill val you will also need a set15 chip.

It is a quarter machine so no bill val. I would also like to have a higher paying DD reel  chip to replace the 3633. Would the high % haywire ss chip also work with the SP 708 I have now?
Thanks you very much for your kind assistance!!

I'd recommend SP805, SP873, SP1085, SP1146 or SP1274 Type 2 SP chips for a Haywire game.
The newer SP chips will have more accounting data than the older ones but play the same.

Think of an SP chip as the "Operating System" such as Windows 8 or 10 for your machine.
It contains programming to allow the reels to do usual or unusual movements.

Another way to look at it is the SP chips are like country, rock, blues, classical music - different themes.
The SS chip is like a song from a jukebox list.

:dancing_2:  OK, I got up with RB and the chips are on the way.  On a slightly different topic, is there a simple way to put credits or free play on the machine without having to pump in so dang many quarters?

SP1137 can be used to get multiple credits per quarter (up to 100 I think) w/set86 chip)  but I don't know if it is haywire capable.  Maybe someone else will chime in.  I have them but never used them.

The SP1137 will not work for the the Haywire game. But the SP1059 is for the type 2/21 (Haywire) games. It allows it to be tokenized and insert coins which will register 2 to 99 credits for each one. I believe it uses a Set 19 chip to set up. I was going to try it on my Haywire machine but never got around to it.
