Picked up this gem the other day for $100 code 12 error on display. New 1/2 AA 3.6V battery has been ordered. Also was missing some mini bulb and sockets that go into the PCB on the front door. Ordered some of them also. Hoping I don't get that 61 loop when I get this battery replaced.

I'm lost, just replaced the 3.6V battery on my IGT S+ Hot Peppers Machine. I did a RAM clear with S-Plus Utility IVC123 120ns (1-512) and still can't get out of the 61 Loop. Once I power it on then reset button once goes into 61 1 then I shut the door and turn the key on the side then I get 65 3 if I turn the key again I get 65 1 if I turn the key a 3rd time it goes into setup mode. Won't go anymore from there. Hope someone can help me. Thanks.

You should not be turning the jackpot reset key with a 65-1 error.

The correct procedure for getting past a 65-1 error can be found on the FAQ page of common IGT S+ errors and resolutions, found here:

thanks I figured it out. all I had to do when the 65 1 code was displayed was press the white reset button once and it started working. Now my DBV doesn't work. I have a S-Plus Utility Set015 120ns (1-512) to try next. Also I have no sound when the reels are spinning.

After a clear you must use the SET chip to enable the bill validator or it will not accept bills.  Directions on how to use it can be found here: http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/dbv.htm

Assuming you're hearing any sounds, such as the ding of a coin-in or win, the following applies:

I can't quite read the label on the picture of your MPU board.  Is that SP1271?  I have attached the PSR for SP1271, and also Ron (R273)'s "for rookies" spreadsheet which helps to make it easier to navigate the PSRs.  It looks like on the 1271 the sound option is page 0, option 2.  Change the option to whatever it isn't currently set to.

If you are not hearing ANY sounds at any time, check the volume control (blue dial on the MPU board which can be accessed even when the board is installed).  You may also need to ensure that the wiring to the speaker hasn't been cut or otherwise disconnected.  The speaker should be located near the lower left corner of the door as you look at the machine with the door closed.
