s2000 Where do I begin

just picked up 2 S2000 machines
1st is a super Stars spin with error" printer Hardware error" and closure M which I read is a notification of door closed
and 2nd is a Cleopatra 9 line which is a eprom error  which ends up at please close main door and does nothing .
Have worked on and repaired many Splus machines but these are my first attempt on the s2000
previous owner claims they were working but had to do battery change after sitting for 2 to 3 yrs
both are coinless with printers and BV. do not currently have clear  chip or key chips for these machines

IVC00224 clear & KEY00045 recommended. Will do almost any S2000. Printer problem could be a simple fix. "Please close the main door" could be misaligned, disconnected, or bad optics but it's more likely a bad MPU. Look closely for battery acid damage in the area that the Varta battery is or was installed. There's plenty of reading material here: http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?board=81.0
Fortunately you do have 2 machines so parts swapping will help you diagnose. I can supply clear & key chips if needed. PM if interested.

can I simply remove printer or disconnect or should I be doing something else .
I believe my door optics are working because I am getting results or machine movement from opening and closing of latch.
I figure the cleopatra at a minimum is in need of clear and key chips
I dont even know what do as far as the printer hardware issue . also have I read it right that the closure M is more of an indication
the door has been closed or is it indeed an error. Also read could get a closure M condition from Board damage when was looking up Boards on ebay

Closure M means the main door was closed, it is just a message and doesn't indicate a malfunction.  If you open the door, that message goes away, and when you close it it returns.  You have to play a game in order for the message to go away.  Yes you can disconnect the printer, but if the machine is set to print out tickets, it will give you an error until you configure it to no print tickets.

eeprom error sometimes goes away with a clear and reset up, or the eeprom on the backplane might be bad, it is an 8 pin socketed chip usually and can be easily changed.

currently cant play a game or do anything on Machine with Printer hardware error will be getting clear and key chip
but not sure if there is something else i could be checking.
Have been reading its ok to remove Varta Battery Is that  A good recommendation
also what is the Backplane that has been mentioned with possible bad eeprom

on super stars removed Varta Battery and cleaned up board still have printer hardware error but entered menu
by pressing white button at some point got to Test bills and Bill Validator came alive and woke up after booting machine
was able to get credits on the machine by BV accepting a 20 .  Yellow bezel eventually went out but would still accepts bills.
Turned of machine for a couple days will reboot and credits are still there and will play but BV no longer lit up or accepting bills.
Tried to go back into menu white white button for test bills option but not able to locate;. Is that because there are credits on the Machine.
only option is to Enable/Disable BV .  where  did the test bills option go is my question here . when i found that option before is what turned the yellow bezel on and wouild pull the  bills in and spit them back .  sorry for long question ArtD

How many credits are on the machine? If they are over the bill limit the yellow light will not turn on or accept bills until the number of credits drop below the limit settings.  Also you can change the limits on the machine but there must be zero credits on the machine before it will allow you to change them

thanks for that little tidbit of info will check the limits but the only time it lit up yelloow was in
 a test menue and it had a item that i believe was test bills/
BV doesnt light up any longer but takes bills and havent seen the test bill option again.
also still have no idea what to do about the printer hardware error
