Medalist Coin Hopper Not Resetting After Payout
« on: May 01, 2019, 01:38:34 pm »
Hello.

My Medalist coin hopper is not returning to start position after the handle pull on game following a payout.  This obviously prevents future payouts on winning spins. I can't tell if the solenoid is bad or perhaps the switches on the reel assembly? or wherever that switch may be?  I assume it's there because the handle pull usually trips the solenoid on the hopper.

Any ideas where I should look to see if the switch is doing it's thing or should I look for another hopper (25c)

Thanks

Steve

No reason to look for another hopper. As mentioned, start by checking the zero stop switch. Manually reset the spiral cam and insure the switch contacts separate.

The switch is functioning as expected.  Now What?  Winner paid light comes on randomly sometimes as the handle is pulled....Does that give any clues?? And once on,  it stays on.

Thanks,

Steve

Regarding hopper not resetting.
Photo is of a unit attached to the hopper on earlier machine.
Not familiar to your Olympic Medalist machine, but is this what is not resetting?
Commonly know as the payout step up unit is reset at the beginning of the next handle pull.
Activated by switches on the hopper. Which may need cleaning and or adjustment.
The winner paid light will have know effect on how the machine runs. Its more of a convenience to the player and protection for the Casino.
Photos of the part or area of the machine in question are very helpful.

Yes I think it is the solenoid that fires on the handle pull after a payout.  Way beyond my repair capabilities.....

If I can find a replacement hopper that has been checked out that would be the way to go me thinks!!

Ideas??

Thanks

Probably be easier to fix than find a hopper that is compatible with your machine.
Attached photo showing payout reset circuit.
When the spiral cam advances the zero switch closes. When the handle is pulled on the next coin.
The reel mechanism closes the B switch momentarily thus completing the reset circuit.

First clean the contacts on both switches.
Check both switches for continuity and related wire solder connections.
This circuit will travel through a Beau-Plug, check Beau-Plugs for loose or disconnected wires.

Bill, thanks for the photo. Maybe see you out in Camarillo this year.

Check this lever and make sure it moves freely.  If you pick it up on the left side and it slowly goes down, put a drop of oil at the pivot point and work it in.

Thanks for all the help everyone!!

I cant seem to solve the issue and now the reel mech is not working. The handle solenoid is down and I can pull the handle over and over but no reel spin at all.  WTF??

I'm going to part this out perhaps......Don't want to fool with it any more. I have owned it for 24 years and that's enough!!   Doing WMS, IGT and Bally Alpha 2 now...............waaay less complicated.

Check the trip lever at the bottom right side of the reel mechanism.
If it’s stuck and or the spring is missing the reels won’t kick.

Would not part out the machine as it has some value in its complete state.

Note, In the past I have planned vacation around free slot machines.
Just saying!

Nothing makes me cringe more than hearing the words "parting out". I too take road trips for machines. I just hate to see a complete machine lost as parts.

Hello,I"am not sure if it has one on your hopper but I start with checking ZERO stop switch

Hey everyone and Bally Bill..............Turns out the Zero Stop Switch was the culprit.  It appeared to be making contact at first inspection, but today I tried pulling the handle while holding the two contacts together.  Lo and behold, it reset itself (and gave me a little shock as well)!!  So I tweaked them as to make better contact as the stop drops down on a payout.

Working like a champ now...  YAY!!

Thanks to all who offered help with this!!  My baby is back!!
