My Bally 831 has a jammed lever. I can't remember how I unjammed it the last time.

Is the handle stuck down?
There is an arm behind/below the handle mechanism that has a flat surface about 1/2x5/8 facing up.
Press it down with a screwdriver or wooden dowel, be clear of the handle as it springs back.

If the OS Pull handle is stuck dowm, it's possible that the air cylinder on the right side of the reels is whats stuck? The rubber cup seal inside the air cylinder turns to a sticky tar.. If this is your problem, your going to have to free it up. Then remove the reels assembly to remove it, and clean upthe old cup seal inside..

Seems most of the problem with the handle/lever is on the downward motion. It's the most "stiff" is at the bottom of the stroke. Is there electro at work (or not working) here or should I be looked for somewhere to lube?

Pull the reels out of the machine. Pull the handle release forward, this will allow you to pull the handle.
To get the handle back up push down on the handle reset lever.
This will help determine if the problem is in the handle mechanism or the reel assembly.

Possibly the air cylinder is dirty or the push rod needs to be lengthened.
Make sure the reels are in all the way, possibly a bent beauplug pin could keep the reels from going all the way in. Thus keeping the handle from functioning properly.

Yes, I had the reels out today looking for something that might have needed oiling. I couldn't find enough things that might be involved. I'll take another look tomorrow morning using what advice you've left behind here today.

Itâ€™s sounding like the air cylinder needs to be removed and cleaned inside. There is a rubber cup seal inside that turns to a sticky tar. Remove that seal and clean the piston and inside of the air cylinder. I find that rubbing alcohol and acetone work for cleaning. Just apply a very light amount to the inside of the air cylinder. Too much grease willjust shoot out of the air hole causing a big mess. Be careful not to loose one of the spacers inside the piston when removing the link bar from the piston for cleaning.

Okay, I've got the air cylinder out and the rubber cup is pretty gummy and probably the cause of the sluggishness for the handle action if not at least a contributor. Who can sell me a new rubber cup?

Also, what do you recommend a oil and or grease (I know that most of that sort of thing for my Grandfather Clock is all specialized or at least appeared that way). Besides this air cylinder there's lots of oil hinges and greasable gears.

Actually you do not need a new rubber cup. Just clean, grease the piston and the inside of the cylinder and put things back together. It will work fine.

Not to worry. Even if they were readily available you do not need it. If you really want to purchase one, it is available on e-bay for I think its $4.99 + shipping ofcourse.

Iâ€™ve done about a 100 machines and none have the rubber cup seals. Itâ€™s the first thing I remove. Like I posted above, use a very light coating inside the air cylinders. Too much will come out the air hole causing a big mess.

15/16 brake cylinder rubber cup will work. Just need to punch the right size diameter hole in the center.
If I remember correctly itâ€™s 1/2". Iâ€™ve done a few until I ran out of cups. I saved those cups for years, finally found a use for them.

That's great fabrication style...yup, "wingin it". My style too...a "jury rig". A technique that those of us at Frontier Telephone company are so familiar with. Ha ha...too true & perhaps "sad" at least for those of us employees (or former employee) still there.

Hi ya Dave,

No, but as the saying goes "the cheque is in the mail". We had a hellacious wind storm and our power went off for almost three days (National Grid "Nation Greed" utility co.).

I've been preoccupied with the generator & the fouled sparkplug within. So I was planning on getting the Bally reassembled this afternoon (I have the air cylinder dropped to get at the piston). So for your info..I'll be working on it with my JIS (Vessel Brand) phillips head screwdriver. JIS stands for Japan Industry Standard. It's a phillips head that has "facets" around the flutes so it's less likely to "cam out". Yup, surprised me too...but they have them available (right from Japan) at Amazon & eBay.

I'll let you know when I get the air cylinder back in and try the handle.

Same here, no power for a couple of days. Also wind, fire no rain.
Looking at the Champion 3400 dual fuel inverter, waiting for Black Friday. See if they knock a few $$$ off.

Yeah, well my Craftsman/Kawasaki 3800 was choking, puking and gagging on the electric hot water heater. Hence the fouled sparkplug I think.

Now I have progress here with the Bally Mechanical/Elect. The cylinder seems slippery enough and the handle lever is not too bad. Butttt....inspite of the coin drop department shows at least the first dime dropped but the second & third dimes "sound" a little bit weaker. In spite of the front status shows the coins accepted but the pull handle does not release. Not know if this part is related but the first & second reels are not activated. The third reel spins very freely & never stops at any point.....nothing happen in the slot department here....nothing dropping into the slot.....and just third reel spinning & spinning. I see the clock on the left of the machine has it's "fan blades" spinning & spinning (so I think that would indicate timing working okay).

Yeah, I'd like to have a 5000 watt generator. But right now I'm at the water pump, oil furnace & refrigerators mostly happy. So I have toilet to flush but since I took the water pipes off of the oil burners coils and swapped them to the electric hot water heater.....too much overload now I guess.
