Newbie with a IGT Game King questions

Hello!

I just purchased a IGT Game King (dirt cheap) with a manufacture date of 2001. It works great, but I would like to change the pay % and add more currency options (add more games??). I know there is such a thing as a "key chip", but I am not sure where it goes on my motherboard or which key chip to buy, or the process to use it? Here is a picture of the motherboard and machine label/model. Any help is appreciated.

To change odds and games, yes - you will need a key chip, which goes just above the big square INTEL chip, in your MPU board (that's not a mother board). You need to be REALLY careful when pulling in/out that board due to damage that can easily be caused by static electricity. 
And you need to be very careful pulling pulling chips in/out as you can easily damage or break the legs. And you need to always note where the notch on the chip is. MPU boards don't like backward-installed IC's!! 
Once you key chip the game, it will allow you additional menu options to change or swap games.

That is a 3902 board.

You have a gameking with a 3902 mpu, running really old gameking 4.x software.  Upgrading to a set of gameking 5.x software would give you much better gameplay and options, but you will also need to change the daughterboard with the sound chips eproms to a Multimedia lite board (uses simms for the sound roms).  Shouldn't cost you more than $100 to get all that you need, probably even half that if you get a good price on the software.  You need a key 22 for your setup.  There should be multiple posts regarding key chip use, but basically you replace the big 40 pin eprom with the purple sticker labeled M526 with the keychip.  You need to make sure you have zero credits.  The keychip will allow you to clear all the  settings and enable the key menu for setting up secured options like games and denominations.  Once you finish the key chip procedure, you replace it with the M526 chip, boot and all the setup options including the key chip menus will be available for changes. You could probably find you tube videos on how to do all this, and you should before you attempt to change anything.

Attached is the PSR (Program Summary Report) for your specific gameset.

The way to get access to all games (since you can only have a max of 12 per menu screen) is to assign 12 games per denom.  So you have to setup at least 3 denoms since there are 31 games available for your set.

That is exactly what I needed! I like the idea of upgrading to the 5.x software. Is that just new chips on my current motherboard? Swapping out the daughterboard seems straightforward. Is it just called a Multimedia Lite board? Do you have any recommendations where to buy these on-line? (someone reputable). Will I still use the same Key 22 chip for the upgrade?

Yes, the key 22 is still the same.  5.x software has a base eprom, 4 gme chips, and several simms for character, graphics and sound.

I'm gonna open a can of worms here, but if you are willing to spend around $500 or so (maybe a bit higher since it seems parts a bit harder to find now), you can upgrade your cabinet to 044 (backplane, mpu and flash board for sofware), you can get Superstar Poker, which is basically the best thing you can run on that machine.  Just do a search for Superstars Poker here and you will read all about it.  Different key chip for this platform key 28.

So I purchased the 5.1 software pack, key 22 and Multimedia Lite 2 board (all for under $100). This should give me an updated look and the poker games I want. I only spent $175 to buy the machine and a few bucks to replace the battery. Not sure I want to invest $500 or more to go to a 044 board and 6.2, but it is good to know it can be upgraded. Do you have the program summary PDF for the 791 (5.1) base chip? Any other documentation for the game king I should have? Thanks for all your help, I hope the change over goes smoothly..

Congrats.  That was a great price for it.  Looks like you've found everything you needed to upgrade your software.  I just wanted to let you know that IGT never developed a 044 motherboard for the 13" cabinets, so you wouldn't be able to upgrade it anyhow.
