WOW! Stayouttadabunker that is a Fantastic Video. TU for sharing the Video. I obtained quite a few of these BV’S in machines that look like they’ve been outside for many years. I took One apart this morning, really easy. I have a spare dishwasher hooked up as a parts cleaner and it worked great for this project.

Thanks.
Now you need to ask around for the bill validator download program needed, so you can flash (upload) the proper firmware to your BV, using a simple desktop computer printer USB 2.0 Type-B cord.
You know...those ones with the square-like plug at one end?
All the firmware version numbers for different machine models are at the JCM website, and/or maybe in the validator section of NLG.

That UBA should work for sure, just make sure all 3 jumpers underneath are set across pins 2&3 for RS232 communication. We use 2.08-31 in ours but that 2.06 would probably work, I'll look it up on the GLI report in a few and see if it's got any information on it (assuming the sticker matches what's flashed to it).

I bet the JCM tool suite software could be found somewhere, from that downloading a UBA is super easy. You may have to do some digging to find firmware but you may find it archived somewhere.

2.06-21 is still approved for use in old AGS games and obsolete for use in Ainsworth... It should work fine for home use though. It's not going to take any modern bills, it came out in 2010. the version we use has the same issue, it came out in 2011.

If I can find that in my archives I'll test it for you in my shop to see if it works on my IGCA test bench.

Do you concur with our assessment that there is no way to bypass the need for a BV? The initial goal is to, initially, verify the game will take coins and at least play a normal credit game. Our take on the issue is that we cannot get the game to proceed with normal play because it cannot get past BV setup.

Im really quite surprised there isn't an option to turn BV off. Coin only in other words.

Chris

Yes, I don't see a way to run it without one.

Does your version have the Autoplay option?   That bypasses the BV.   There is also a "Show Mode" on some versions, I haven't tried that one though.

Depending on your knowledge of programming, I'm sure there is a way to disable it but you are going to have to do quite a bit of work. It's probably not worth the effort. I looked through the CD in the Java decompiler, powerpit/mains/OperatorData.class contains all of the options that can in theory be set. It does not seem like the BV is a configurable option at all.

I have an Area51 down on the floor right now, I'll snap some pics of the BV and hopper harnesses and post them up later.

Looks like our hopper harnesses were removed when we swapped to printers.  The BV harness is the original P/N COLE 501-0354, it was just swapped to the UBA housing.

Thank You So much for the support. Chris is going to help me after the New year with this programming stuff, I’m not very computer literate
