Author Topic: Game King Multi-Game Bill Validator Status "Not Responding" and Won't Take Bills (Read 8418 times)

I am not very familiar with these machines and am trying to help a friend troubleshoot some of the issues he is having with his machine. So, the bill validator is enabled and shows two red LED's near the dip switches, which are all in the "On" position. I can't remember exactly what sequence of buttons we pressed in the settings to get to, but we found a page that gives the status of the bill validator, which was "Not Responding" and when we selected the Auto-Configure Button, it shows that it is "Requesting..." but after 30 seconds or so, is unable to get a response from the validator, so again, we get the "Not Responding" message. Any idea as to what might be the problem?

The dip switches should all be OFF.

So, switching them all to the "Off" position should fix the problem? If this is a dumb question, I apologize, but for my own understanding and curiosity, can you tell me why they should be off instead of on?

Haven't tried it yet as the machine belongs to a friend. Based on what I have read, it generally sounds like a select few or all of the DIP switches should be "On", but I know close to nothing about these machines so what I think means absolutely nothing ha.

The JCM manual will show all dips off for normal operation

So, I turned all the DIP switches to the off position and turned on the machine, but it still won't take any bills. Any other suggestions?

so when you say won't take bills, does it not even try? Does it take the bill in and hesitate and then spit the bill out? Which era of game king is this? The monitor a 17" or a 13"?

It doesn't even try and doesn't make a peep, but it's on. It's a 13" Game King.

Does the BV cycle on power up or by removing and reinstalling the cash can?

No. I don't hear any noise from it, but once again, it definitely has power, so what would be causing it to not cycle?

It could be a number of things.
It could be sort of switch that activates the start-up sequence broken when you push in the cash box?
Although you say "It has power". it may not have enough power, to work correctly.
In the photo below, I've outlined in yellow. a brown capacitor that appears to be slightly bloated on top...that's never a good sign.
In the green square, I've highlighted an onboard power cell that helps retain memory for a chip that has the boot-up sequence....or "power cycle"...if the chip is corrupted, the acceptor will not go thru the cycle sequence.
If I were you, I'd send out the circuit board for repairs or find another bill acceptor.
Personally, I don't know anyone that works on those old boards anymore.
Maybe someone here on NLG may know someone?

If memory serves that bv uses an external power supply. If it does it will be mounted in a silver box to the left of the bill acceptor

It gets it's power from the machines power supply.
