You might have to clear the CMOS data.  If you hold the reset button in for like 10 or so seconds or until you hear a tone. I think that works, but It looks like it's pulling up corrupt data from the CMOS.

Sounds right to me, it sat for a long time, battery was hammer dead, 0.01 volts or so. and lots of coins rolling around inside it, so could be.
But I will try that to see if it works. Here is a shot of the board.

Well BrianT, I have to say, you know your machines!
THAT took care of the scrambled video, no tone heard, so I may still have other problems with the mainboard, too late to be waking up everyone with it tonight!
But THANK YOU so much for sharing your wisdom about the CMOS reset procedure. I did a slow count to 20, just to be sure, and it worked.
 now I have to dedicate some more time to the monitor issue, and hopefully the rest just works!!

Congratulations?  It really is difficult to troubleshoot MPU and monitor issues at the same time!

Ok, thanks to all you guys who helped me get this running.
 I think I still have a problem with the wrong cap chip, someone worked on it somewhere down the line, and according to the list, the CAProm  color generator is wrong.
It is kind of pink-ish purple looking with retrace lines, and if I remember right from reading an earlier post here somewhere, that was what cured a machine was to get the correct CAProm chip. So I will be working on doing that.
 In the meantime,... the game needs attention, cleanup, figure out and fix no sound, bulbs not working on some buttons,etc.
But on the bright side, IT PLAYS, takes coins, responds to key presses, and such. And takes your money as it should, LOLOLOL.

On the edge of the mpu - poking through the tray there is an adjustable dial - this controls the sound.
They can be finiky as they age. I had one that my wife complained about being too loud.

I attempted to gently move the dial which was frozen in place by age. I used my thumb nail in the groove, it moved about a 1/4 turn. More than I planned. Not sure if I over turned it in a direction it was not meant to go or if there is just so much age in that pot but turning it in either direction doesn't give me sound.

I now have no sound on that board and have not gotten around to replacing the pot.

If yours is stuck. I would pull the board and use a small flat head screwdriver in the slot on the top of the pot and move it ever so slightly and put it back into operation and attempt to move it by hand after that.

JB, just to be sure you know, retrace lines are not anything attributed to the game board. The pink background maybe but not retrace lines. You have a problem with filter cap, PRA board or the flyback itself is going out but I don't think the later is the case.

BTW: Once the door is open you can keep hitting the reset button to advance through various game menu setting including showing the paytable (on some sets) and background color plus adjusting the color knobs on the monitor as well... just a thought.

Ok, this really doesn't make sense.
I played this for awile, the longer the tube ran, the better the colors came up.
I guess it is from setting dormant for so long, IDK!!
 Anyway, this should not display a good enough image to even really see the screen.
I went into the test mode, and reset a few things to my liking, and it really looks ok now.
 I have control over all three guns, they are all good and bright.
I set the background to blue, (personal preference).

 BUT, according to the database, this should not be possible with this CAProm. This is strait from the PE+ MASTER PROGRAM LIST.
the colors should not display good at all from what I have read here on this site.
maybe the CAProm is mislabeled, or something, IDK.
Keep in mind my camera is a Samsung phone, the thing don't do the pics justice!! But you can see all 3 primary colors, and it looks good to the naked eye.

The sound issue is just a chip problem or something, it is either wide open, (REALLY REALLY LOUD), or nothing, there is no in between. Checked the pot, good wiper activity, good resistance varying up and down (both sides to common), so no big deal,............... THAT I can handle. And, like Chris said, a little bit more diagnostics on the monitor board to go, prolly more caps or solder joints...................

CAP740 and CAP904 are very similar and your unlikely to notice any bad colors.  PM and we can talk about getting some chips to you.
