PE PE+ S S+ Hopper stops & tilts after paying out 900+ coins?

I have a perfectly maintained hopper & have had for years. It' set for 1200 max pay. Recently while paying out it will stop somewhere between 900 & 1100 coins & tilts. If I open & shut to clear it will tilt again because it won't run. Once I wait about 2 minutes, it will work again. The motor gets warm as it should, but not hot? I changed both boards thinking a possibility with no luck.

The hopper is clean & lubed throughout & runs smooth as silk.
It a fast pay one BTW. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The machine is excellent condition inside out with a NOS tube & this hopper issue is bothersome. I could minimize payout, but it should pay & pay. I sold off 1000s of tokens last year & used this hopper to count them, no issues. This happened all of a sudden?

Does a PE shoot out tilt codes?
If so, which code are you getting?

Your photo shows a coin between the coin optics.
Is that where it stops after the tilt?
If so, check the hopper brake spring.
It might not be stopping the shaft from turning in time.

Thanks for the reply. It's the photo angle. The token is sitting on the rubber brake before optic, pictured. I have new springs & will change out & follow up here. What I find so strange is once it gives the hopper empty tilt, tomatoes what I do it takes at least 5 minutes before it will start working again. It's like something has cool down, but motor is not super hot, just very warm.like they do in long pay out use? It now happens everything I cash out 1200 coins. It's very puzzling? I worked on PE+ PE S S+ for years long ago & have never ran into this
particular issue?

The problem may be internally in the gearbox?
Something's making the motor work harder.

I changed the spring with no change, but I got 1050 coins before it stopped lol. I'll try & dismantle the gear box in the next day or 2 & get back here. I timed it this time. 5 minutes to cool before it will start again. It spins super smooth & easy & why I swapped out boards & passed on gear box originally. I've never had an issue with a gear box, so it will be new learn for me.
When I stopped tinkering with slots years vack, this is the only machine I kept. Sold off all my parts back then also, so no spare hopper here, figures lol

That little spring pulls back on the hopper brake pawl to grab one of the two the shaft nibs.
It's really kind a lot of strain for a hopper to "stop on a dime", but that's what they were designed to do.
After you said that the coin was really stopped before the coin optics, I didn't think that the hopper spring was a problem anymore.
I'm still wondering what codes you might be seeing, if any?
Or is it just a general "Hopper empty" message? not a numerical code.

Often, the S+'s had labels taped to the reel glass that said "Machine pays out 1000 credits" or something to that effect.
I'm not sure why you'd want a hopper to pay out more than that?
It's kind of a strain on 30+ year old hopper motors?

Be careful when working on that hopper transmission, it's a ball of grease...can be messy.

May I ask, what kind of coins were those in your photos?

Tokens I used when I had a casino game room for 25c are just plain Brybelly Double Cherry tokens. When you buy new you have to play them through because some of the waits are off & eject, maybe 40 tops out of a 1000. Then good to go
The transmission was cleaned & regreased. Works excellent, but did prior. It now pays out  approx 1200 before stopping. Glass insert says pay 1000, so I just reset it to pay 1000. like casinos did back then. Like you said, it's old & heavily used
